How To Bring More Culture Into Your Life

I haven’t had much opportunity to travel the world, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t had my fair share of exposure to a variety of peoples and cultures. This has tremendously enriched my life and has prepared me to interact with all kinds of individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

If you want to bring more culture into your life, all you have to do is look around you! Let me share the methods I have used to enjoy our global village right in my own hometown.

My first and favorite step was to begin trying out ethnic-inspired restaurants in my area instead of constantly returning to my old favorites. Just last week, my spouse and I enjoyed a Friday night dinner at a Sicilian restaurant, which had some of our favorite Italian dishes, but also featured courses specific to that region.

If you live near an urban center, there is a good chance that there are restaurants close by that feature authentic flavors from countries across the world. Just take the plunge and try a new one every time you go out.

It’s normal Brand Viagra to feel a little anxiety over trying exotic food. So, you might instead sample a variation of what you normally enjoy. For example, if you are a fan of Mexican cuisine–like my spouse is–you could try another Central or South American eatery. In my neighborhood, there are several Brazilian and Peruvian restaurants that we have grown to love.

Take advantage of the arts in your area. Many art museums feature special exhibits when they receive a collection from foreign artists. Plus, a trip to your local museum can help you appreciate the history and art of our own country.

If there are theatres or opera houses within driving distance, you should splurge on tickets with your spouse or a friend. Opera may seem a little old-fashioned at this point, but it has an extensive history and provides a great chance to learn about Italian and French culture.
Many famous plays that have been written in or translated into English were penned by a foreign playwright, giving insight into both the overlapping and differing values and ideas of our country and the playwright’s.

Pay attention to advertisements for local events, like cultural festivals. I am fortunate enough to live in an area where these kinds of things are happening almost all the time. Just last weekend, I attended the Scottish Festival, where many famous Scottish clans were represented, sharing their unique history and traditions.

As you make efforts to expose yourself to more culture, you will find greater enrichment in your life, particularly as you are able to appreciate and understand a wide variety of people and their backgrounds.
