Dealing With Those Boxes Of Photos In The Closet

At one time or another, we have all encountered inordinately large boxes filled with old photos and keepsakes. Whether they belong to us or have been left behind by loved ones that have moved or passed on, we have had those times sitting on the cold floor of the closet, remembering all the times that are so remarkably recorded for us.

But then those boxes get shafted to the back of the closet again, only to be forgotten and left to gather dust–or worse, sustain damage by fire or flood or some other disaster. That is why you cannot leave your boxes of photographs sitting any longer. It’s time to get organized and make use of your history, starting today!

The first thing you will want to do is a buy a large fire-proof safe. This may seem like a paranoid measure, but, in fact, if something happens–something as simple as a pipe bursting in the upstairs bathroom–you will feel very glad that you did something to protect your mementos.

But this is only meant to be a temporary solution. The next step you need to take is to spend time each day or dedicate several weekends to sorting through Viagra Professional and organizing these pictures and keepsakes. Gather together several smaller boxes–shoeboxes will probably do the trick–and label them by year, occasion, and/or family groups.

No doubt you will be unable to complete this process on your own. But think of this as an opportunity to reminisce and get back in touch with family members whose busy lifestyles or other obstacles have kept you from being as close as you would like.

As you identify each photo, use a soft colored pencil (some scrapbooking and craft stores sell them just for this purpose) to label them. This may take awhile, but then you will not have to worry about going through the process over again if somehow everything gets jumbled.

It would be a wise idea to convert your photos to a digital format. Keep the hard copies, but contact a picture scanning service so that you can easily access and sort them on your computer. That way, when Aunt Edna contacts you about all those photos you have from Christmas of ’78, you can easily e-mail them. And, if disaster strikes, you will have another way to hold on to your memories.

Then start putting your photos to good use. Make a scrapbook (or several) or create a personal history (which is something like an autobiography), accented with photos from your childhood and adolescence. Put together a collage and hang it in your office. There are numerous ways to make your memories come alive–you just have to hop to it!
