Improving Your Web Site

You may have heard the term SEO before, but what does it mean? It stands for search engine optimization and is used as an internet marketing strategy.

Basically, it is a process that improves web sites and web pages in search engines so that they become more visible. There is also SEM which stands for search engine marketing and is basically the same thing.

What happens when you look for something online? For example, you want to find a company that can help you advertise your business.

You go online and use at least one search engine to look up companies that specialize prescription cialis generic in advertising. Common search engines that are used are Yahoo, Google, Bing, AOL, AltaVista, and Ask.

You type in advertising company and whatever search engine you used will pull up thousands, if not millions, of search results. Depending on what term you used in the task bar, it will determine how many web sites are associated with that term.

The companies that have the most visitors every month and are more popular and bigger will show up as the first few results. Companies that are hardly ever clicked on will remain on the bottom of the rankings.

So if the site appears more frequently in the results list, the more visitors it will have because it will be closer to the top of the list. When you type something in to look it up, are you going to look through every page and every company that showed up?

No, you are not. Because there are way too many results and as you get closer to the bottom of the list, you will probably run into companies that are not as good and do not have a great reputation.

This is why SEO exists. People want their businesses to rank high on these lists so that they have more visitors to their web sites and in turn will get more customers creating more money for them.

How is this done? There are a few different ways that you can improve your web site’s ranking.

The first thing that you can do is fix your web site so that it is user friendly and looks really good. If you are not sure how to build a web site, then it would be very beneficial for you to hire someone that can do it.

People do not like to visit pages that are confusing and have too much stuff on them or not enough information. Finding that balance can be hard and takes a lot of effort.

Picking good key words to use on the page will help you attract more people. For example, if your company specializes in dog training, you want to include specific phrases on your page.

Instead of using the phrase “golden retriever instruction”, you want to broaden it a little bit to “golden retriever training”. There will be a lot more people who type the phrase “training” into their computer than people who use the word “instruction”.

Something else that is done to help improve your page is creating back links. The more credible links you have to your page, the higher you will be on the list.

This is done with content articles and posting links on other web sites that will attract a lot of people. There are internet bots (also called spiders and crawlers) that will go to these links and articles and examine it to see how relevant it is to your page.

If the article has nothing to do with your page, the link will be deleted and your ranking will go down. People who use methods like article spinning, keyword stuffing, link farms, and spamdexing are only degrading their web sites and hurting themselves.

Search engines look for these kinds of techniques that are used so they can remove them from their list. And if your page is removed, no one will see it.

It is necessary to spend some money on advertising because it will eventually help your business and make you more money. Just make sure that you do it the right way so that your page is credible and you attract real customers.
