NFL Tickets – Ranking the Quarterbacks Not Named Manning or Brees

Not every fantasy football manager is going to land Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers, but don’t worry; there are still some other good options. Assuming that Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Philip Rivers and Tom Brady are the best five quarterback options for this season, let’s take a look at the next group of quarterbacks that can help you win.

10. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons. After a disappointing second year in the league in 2009, Matt Ryan lost a lot of appeal from fantasy owners. With running back Michael Turner healthy this season, however, the Falcons are in much better shape and Ryan should have a considerably better season than he did in 2009. His number one wideout, Roddy White, is a very steady target and Ryan seems a much more reliable choice than some of the other options like Jay Cutler, David Garrard and Mark Sanchez. Eli Manning is the only other option that makes sense here.

9. Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings. Obviously he has to actually play for the Vikings this season for him to be a top 10 quarterback. Assuming he gets back to the field, he’s simply in too good of a situation to ignore, even if he’s far past his prime. Owners should assume that he won’t be able to duplicate the amazing season he put together in 2009, but with Adrian Peterson running the ball, Sidney Rice continuing to emerge as a very good wideout and explosive players like Percy Harvin to keep defenses off-balance, Favre could have another very big season.

8. Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens. Even if he’s not the type of name that directly sells tons of NFL tickets, Flacco is still one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Last season, Flacco put together a solid statistical year with a number one wideout well past his prime (Derrick Mason) and not a whole lot of other receiving options.

With the addition of Anquan Boldin, however, Flacco now has a legit number one option and Mason can slide to the two. Running back Ray Rice is also a great safety valve and his ability to run after the catch will give Flacco lots of yards he didn’t even really earn. The same could be said of Boldin as well.

7. Matt Schaub, Houston Texans. Though Schaub isn’t one of the elite quarterbacks in the league quite yet, there are few signal callers that put up the type of numbers he’s capable of. Having Andre Johnson tearing up secondaries certainly helps but Schaub can make every throw on the field, which is a dangerous combination. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Schaub finished as one Brand Cialis of the very top fantasy quarterbacks in the league in 2010.

6. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys. It’s hard to put Romo ahead of the top guys but he should be leading one of the very top passing attacks in the league. You can even make the argument that he’s a better pick than Philip Rivers, who most have as the fifth rated quarterback. Rivers provides plenty of stability but doesn’t have the weapons that Romo has at his disposal.

There’s the possibility that the Cowboys have too many egos in their receiving corps, but this could also work as a motivational factor for both rookie Dez Bryant and veteran Roy Williams. Adding in tight end Jason Witten and the reliable Miles Austin and Romo has for very good targets. A solid backfield should also make it difficult for defenses to prey on the Cowboys’ passing attack. Romo appears poised for a career statistical season.
