Playing The Golf Game

Everyone knows the famous golf legend Tiger Woods but would you recognize his real name? His real name is Eldrick Tont Woods and goes by Tiger as a nickname.

He has been ranked as the World Number One professional golfer and was the highest paid professional athlete. In the year 2008, he was paid about one hundred and ten million dollars from all of the tournament winnings and endorsements.

Since he has started his professional career, he has won fourteen major championships and seventy-one PGA (the Association of Professional Golfers) Tour events. Only one other male named Jack Nicklaus has more championships under his belt.

He was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California. This makes him the youngest player to achieve the grand slam and win fifty tournaments on tour.

Again, he is only the second player to have achieved the grand slam three times behind Jack Nicklaus. Sixteen world Kamagra Gold golf championships have also been won by him.

He was awarded PGA player of the year award and has also received the Byron Nelson award (like the Vardon trophy that is given each year to the leader in scoring averages by professional players, but is for the player with the lowest adjusted scoring average for the year).

He is married to Elin Nordegren and has two children whose names are Sam Alexis (born in 2007) and Charlie Axel (born in 2009). He attended Stanford University for two years and became a professional player in 1996.

Overall he has had ninety-seven wins. In the early 2000’s, he was making over one hundred million dollars a year.

As recently as last December in 2009, he announced that he would be leaving the golfing community for a while so that he could have some time to focus on his marriage. There were several women (more than a dozen) who he had committed adultery with and had to admit infidelity to his wife.

He stayed away from the professional field for about twenty weeks before he returned to play in the 2010 Masters competition on April 8, 2010. The magazine Forbes declared that Tiger Woods was earning one hundred and five million dollars while Sports Illustrated proclaimed that he was only making ninety point five million dollars.

He was born to Earl and Kultida Woods and was the only child from this marriage. He has two half brothers name Earl Jr. and Kevin and then another half sister named Royce. His father was retired from the United States army as a lieutenant colonel and was also a Vietnam War veteran.

He is a mix of African American, Chinese, and Native American based on his ancestry. He calls his ethnic makeup “Cablinasian” which incorporates Caucasian, black, American Indian, and Asian.

He grew up in the Buddhist faith and has stayed active in Buddhism for most of his adult life. He says that for a while he lost track of his faith and that was why he cheated on his wife and family.

He stated that, “Buddhism teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously I lost track of what I was taught”. He got his nickname from his father’s friend who was also a Vietnam veteran when he was younger and has kept that nickname since.

Tiger spent most of his childhood in Orange County, California. He started playing golf by the time he was two years old and was taught by his father Earl Woods who was an amateur golfer.

Because he was known as a child prodigy in the sport, he appeared on the Mike Douglas Show at age three and played against the famous Bob Hope. He won the under age 10 section of a competition held at the Navy Golf Course at the same age.

He has been in Golf Digest since age five and won the Junior World Championships at age eight and went on to win it five more times. He has always been extremely successful at this sport and has always enjoyed playing with many different famous professionals until he became a professional and made a name for himself.
