Bacterial Vaginosis – Your Diet is the Culprit

If you’re suffering with bacterial vaginosis, could your diet be the culprit?

Various things women eat have been accused of causing bacterial vaginosis. Your diet may prevent this condition from occurring altogether. Most of the natural treatments and ingredients that are known to eliminate bacterial vaginosis can be worked into anyone’s diet. And there are many everyday kitchen ingredients that will help you prevent a bacterial imbalance or abnormal growth activity.

The friendly bacteria that inhabit your system are your body’s silent partner for optimal health. Most people are not attentive to the factors of stress and poor diets which decrease their body’s ability to fight off germs. So what should you include in your diet to keep bacterial vaginosis at bay and stay ahead of the curve? There are a few things to add to your diet and few that need to be removed.

Garlic

Garlic is one of the most important ingredients that must be included in your diet. It is an antimicrobial and helps promote a balanced vaginal flora. Garlic contains a minimum of 13 different compounds that can boost your immunity. Its active ingredient is allicin which fights viruses and bacteria. This ingredient is a staple for women suffering with Bacterial Vaginosis, not only externally but topically.

We’ve all heard the great news about antibiotics and the miracle compounds that reward us. But the best types of antioxidants are compounds found in plants called phenols and dietary phenols support the probiotic organisms in our vaginal flora and digestive tract.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables have the highest phenol content, especially when they are fresh; goji berries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries are just some of the riche sources of phenols you’ll find.

There is no daily requirement for dietary phenols. No label tells you how much to consume. The spotlight shines bright on vegetables that not only are great sources of phenols but fiber to help cleanse the colon; Lentils, Beans and Cabbage can inhibit the growth of bad bacteria and work to keep the gut microflora balanced.

Probiotics

Probiotic bacteria are living organisms and many of them used for fermentation and live naturally in milk. One of the best sources is found in yogurt and it’s a premiere source of Lactobacillus – the same bacteria found in vaginal flora. But not all yogurts contain what you need. The best way to ensure that you’re buying a yogurt that contains probiotics is to select one that says “live and active cultures”. Also, check the expiration date because probiotic bacteria usually can survive for three to five weeks when refrigerated.

Of course there are foods we must reduce and/or remove from our diets; refined flour products, sugar, alcohol, fermented and high fat foods should all be removed from your diet. Many of us simply cannot eliminate these things all at once but a big reduction can provide dazzling benefits.

Many times your system malfunctions can be attributed to your diet but are easy to rectify. A simple change in what we eat can balance the organisms meant to live harmoniously.
