Step 1. Spread out old newspapers on an open area where you would be painting. Remove the folding door from its place using the screwdrivers and bring it to the area. Remember that painting folding doors is more appropriate doing it while the doors are upright so you can lean it on a tree or wall. This is to prevent smudging or accumulating of paints on any surface of the door.

Step 2. Gather all your supplies and dust the door surfaces including the top edge.

Step 3. Clean thoroughly the surfaces and you can use soap and water for this. Remove all smudges including accumulated dirt on crevices.

Step 4. Wipe the doors dry and let it air-dried for half an hour.

Now for the painting:

Step 1. Pour paint onto the tray and load it roller to make sure there will be no excess paint.

Step 2. Start painting the edges of the folding doors by rolling onto exposed edges working from the top going to the bottom. Apply thin paint first to prevent drips that may cause doors to stick together. When painting the other side, avoid touching the painted edge. Follow the instructions on the label of the paint when it comes to drying time.

Step 3. If you are painting or drying bifold doors you can rest it in V-shape. After the paint is dried, open the other side again into a V-shape, paint it and let it dry completely as well.

Step 4. For multi-paneled folding doors, you can paint one panel at a time by working at the top down to the bottom. You can use your brush or roller at your convenience.

Step 5. If painting a wooden folding door, you have to follow the direction of the wood grain with your roller.

Step 6. For folding doors that have decorative panels or inserts, better use the paintbrush in painting the details then use the roller for the flat areas. You can use the brush on crevices and edges.

Step 7. Use the paintbrush in smoothing out excess paint that may have rolled on the door edges and hinged areas and let dry. Do this painting procedure on all additional doors and put second coat when necessary.

Step 8. After all parts of the door are completely dried you can now reattach the doorknobs and re-hang your newly painted folding door on its track.
