Writing Prompts For Content Creation

So you\’ve used a free website creator to make an awesome website, now what? A good website needs both excellent design and excellent content in order to attract and keep readers. Even the best free website maker isn\’t enough if you don\’t have something to put on it. Here are some excellent prompts to help you get writing when you\’re stuck.

Write about your childhood. Many people have some interesting observation about their life as a kid, and how they grew up.

– Write about one of the teachers you had in school. Who was your best or worst teacher?
– Write about a coach or instructor from an extracurricular activity.
– Write about the principal of your elementary school and your impression of them, were they a distant and scary figure? A personal friendly sort of person?
– Try to explain one of the imagination games you played as a kid. The weirder, the better.
– Describe one of your childhood friends that you haven\’t seen in years. Speculate on what they might be like now.
– Try to reconstruct your family dinner menu.
– Tell about some weird things your dad used to do.
– Describe your childhood hangout. Was it in the basement or garage? Vacant lot? Lunch tables at school?
– Write about a horrible thing you did as a kid that you still feel bad for.

Write about your job.
– What was your first job?
– Compare the bosses you have had. Award them points for things like politeness and good ideas. Who wins?
– Reconstruct the scenery on your commute each day.
– Which of your coworkers really, really, REALLY bugs you? Why?
– Is there anyone at work that could disappear without anyone noticing? Is there anyone who\’s absence would ruin everything?
– Which of your coworkers is most likely to die at work and remain undiscovered for days?
– Speculate about what your coworkers do when they do home at the end of the day. Invent interesting lives for a few of them. Use pseudonyms.

Go find something to write about.
– Find the strangest news story you can, and write a blog post about it.
– Search a set of random words and then use a free website creator to share what you found. You’d be amazed what turns up when you search terms like “waffle baby spelunking”. Use the image search as well.
– Strange things make for good content. Tell about the weirdest thing you ever spotted by the side of the road.
– What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever seen out your window?
– What has been your strangest experience while traveling?
– Write about that weird guy in your former neighborhood, school, church, or sports team. Chances are you’ve met at least one of them.
– Look up some psychological disorders and attempt to diagnose your friends and family with them.
– Think of something you collect, like bottlecaps or souvenir magnets. Now use the power of the internet to find someone who has taken the same collection past the point of ridiculous. Share your findings on your blog.

Ask for advice.
– Find a kid and ask them what they wrote about at school recently. Shamelessly steal their writing prompts.
– Ask your friends, coworkers, or family members what you should write about. Use their suggestions, especially the sarcastic ones.
– Poll your readers to see what they would like to read. Ask for suggestions.
– Use a chat-roulette, instant messaging client, or other method to talk to a random person on the internet. Ask them what you should write about. Even if they have no ideas, you can write about the experience.

Even the best free website creator can’t create real content for you. However, you can probably manage to create something interesting or make some meaningful comments about something you found. Remember that good content is important, but regular updates are needed to keep people coming back to your site again and again.
