Mini Tutorials on HostGator – Part 3

In this article, I am going to show you how to manage HostGator cPanel account. But before we start, I request you to read my previous two articles on mini tutorials about hostgator. I have already discussed how to login to cPanel, how to add a new domain, how to add a sub domain, how to enable ssh, how to create FTP account, how to create email account and how to find name servers.

In this article, we are going to see how you can change the cPanel password, update the contact information and access the file manager.

Change cPanel Password

When you sign up with HostGator, you get an email from the hostgator. That email contains information about your account. You will get information like from where you can access your cPanel account. Just visit that link. You will be asked for your username and password. In the email, you will also get the username and password information. Enter your account username and password.

Since the username and password comes directly in the plain format, we request you to change the cPanel password after first login. To change the cPanel password, use the following steps.

1) Login to your HostGator account.

2) Under preferences section, click on change password button.

3) Here enter the old password then enter the new password and re-enter the new password.

4) Finally click on “Change your password now!” button.

Now your cPanel password has been changed.

Update Contact Information

You need to keep your contact information up-to-date at your hostgator account. Hostgator frequently sends notification about disk quota, bandwidth usage and email account quota. You will also get email alert from the hosting company if any new software update is available.

If you don\’t have your update information updated with your hostgator account then you can use the following steps to update the contact information.

1) Go your cPanel account

2) Click on update contact info under preferences button.

3) On this page, you need to enter your email address. You can also enter your secondary email address.

4) Click on the check boxes for which you want to get notified. Then click on save button.

That\’s it. Now your contact information is updated.

Access File Manager

Generally, you can access the files through FTP client. Sometimes, you need to access your web file when you don\’t have your own computer. So you need to access the files online. You can create, edit and delete files easily using online File Manager. cPanel comes with a file manager. Follow these steps to access the file manager.

1) First login to your hostgator account.

2) Click on File Manager button under the Files section.

3) Select the folder which you want to open. You also have an option to see hidden files. Check the option if you want to see the hidden files. So you will be able see the files starting with dot.

4) Here you can create a new file, delete a file, copy the file, move the file or edit the file. These operations are self-explanatory. Just select the file and complete the operation.

That\’s it. Now you have complete access to the file manager. I hope you like this mini tutorial series. Thanks for reading.
