The single or multi-layered composite materials used in fabricating the interior accessories of Automotives like the seat back, seat cushion, seat belt, seat cover, arm rest, head rest, movable convertible top, inclusive of all decorative panels like side panels, door inner panel, dome panel, rear panel, dashboard, parcel shelf or interior rack panel, floor, curtain, covering, or any internal organic material including shock absorbing fillings in collisions and buffering devices. All these materials are subject to fading, deformation, becoming brittle and can also catch fire when exposed in open to heat, flame, or sunlight or any other lighting because of its low resistance to burning.

The testing procedure is carried out in a combustion cabinet made up of stainless steel with the measurement 381 mm length, 203 mm width and 356 mm height. The instrument incorporates holes at the bottom to permit air ingression along with a ventilated clearance at the top. The device is also equipped with a glass window that helps the users to observe the development of any ignition after placing the sample inside the cabinet. The sample is placed horizontally in a U- shaped specimen holder. Make sure that the end of the specimen is situated above the Bunsen burner that shows that the free end of the test sample is exposed to the small natural gas flame that is kept under test.

Analysis of the burning sample is completed when the flame inside the chamber either put out or complete its travel to the last measuring point. Now the burning rate can be measured easily.

For standard applications, a burn rate less than 100mm per minute is acceptable, but some vehicle manufacturers have stiffened the needs to specify slower burn rate. The test with flammability tester offers highly accurate and reliable results and take flammability consideration.
