My Top 3 Grand Canyon Airplane Tours

If you\’re going to see the Grand Canyon, try to do it by plane. That way you\’ll get to experience the most canyon you possibly can in the shortest amount of time. To make sure you get the best tour for the money, here\’s my list of the Top 3 flights.

Departure Points

Airplane tours are available from Las Vegas and the South Rim. If you depart from the former, you can visit the West Rim and the South Rim. If you go from the later, you\’ll fly over the South Rim only. Flights are available every day of the year, including Christmas!

My #1 airplane tour is from Vegas and it\’s the one that comes with a helicopter ride to the bottom, a boat ride down the Colorado River and VIP tickets to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. As I tell friends and family, do this tour and you\’ll have seen and done everything there is to do at the West Rim.

The helicopter segment is a thrilling 2,500-foot descent to the bottom where you land, deplane and explore one of the oldest landscapes on the planet. The boat dock is just minutes away from the helipad. Once out on the Colorado, you\’ll experience first hand the thrill of being on the waterway that created the National Park.

Skywalk

Then there\’s the Skywalk. It\’s a massive, all-glass bridge that lets you walk some 70 feet over the edge of the canyon\’s massive wall until you are standing an incredible 4,000 feet over the bottom. The views are phenomenal, especially the ones of Eagle Point and Guano Point. The Skywalk is super popular but don\’t worry about the line because this package includes a VIP ticket that permits you to go straight to the front.

My #2 airplane tour also starts from Las Vegas. It flies direct to the South Rim, and, in my opinion, is the only way to get there. Flight time to the South Rim is just 60 minutes. That\’s fast, especially when you compare it to driving, which takes a minimum of 5.5 hours. The standard version of this tour includes a bus tour inside the Park. The deluxe version lets you add a 30-minute helicopter ride that goes from South Rim to North Rim and back.

My #3 airplane tour is the one at the South Rim. This one delivers 50-minutes of airtime. It leaves from Grand Canyon National Park Airport and includes the South Rim, the East Rim and the North Rim. In that time, you\’ll have flown over the Colorado Confluence as well as through the Dragoon Corridor, which is the widest and deepest section of the National Park.

Conclusion

I hope this article about my Top 3 Grand Canyon airplane tours proved helpful as you plan your National Park vacation. Personally, I like the Vegas plane tour that comes with everything including boat and Skywalk. Seems to me that if you\’re going to do the Canyon, you need to take it all in. If you are at the South Rim, definitely do the 50-minute flight as it covers up to 75 percent of the Park and that\’s the only way to do it if you have limited time to experience the Canyon.
