Daycare Grants – By Definition
What are daycare grants? If you are totally unfamiliar with childcare services this term may be alien to you. I have done a little research to familiarize myself with this kind of industry and these are what I found out.
Daycare or childcare centers as the name implies provide a temporary haven for the caring of children. This is a big responsibility towards the parents and the community alike. The owners of these centers are entrusted to look after the welfare of the children while the parents are away. It is expected that these centers will provide a safe environment for the children, food, educational activities and security for a few hours everyday until the parents return for them. In essence, it is like a second home for children. In that effect, you can establish a daycare center right in your own home and this kind of business can be quite lucrative.
It is not easy to put up a daycare center. There are certain federal laws and regulations that you have to comply with. Taking care of children may require a certain degree of expertise and in some cases, professionalism. Like any business, you will have to apply for a business license. Contact your local licensing office or inquire with the Small Business Administration for the requirements and procedures in opening a daycare center. Make your business legitimate so that your clients will have their full confidence in you.
Next, decide if you will run the business alone or with a partner. It is preferable that you get a partner or hire someone with experience in running a daycare center. You can look for organizations or foundations that deal with childcare and establish a business relationship with them. This strategy will not only help start your business but will help you get grants in the long run.
Daycare grants are assistance given by benefactors to applicants seeking financial or material aide in establishing their own childcare center. Getting the approval of a grant is like going thru the eye of a needle. Since money is involved, some benefactors are very particular in the way you answer your application form. If you are not forthwith with your answers the chances of having your grant approved will be nil. Some donors will require from you a business plan or a financial forecast of your project. If you are very definite of your pursuit I highly recommend that you comply with their requests to have your grant approved.
Grants are normally given to non-profit organizations that delve more into the welfare of children and those activities that will benefit the community in general. For a pro-profit organization, finding a benefactor that may be interested enough to invest in your cause may have some difficulty. I am not discouraging you from your plans to put up your own center. You have to be realistic with the fact that daycare grants just don’t fall into your lap! You have to work hard for it. Think of programs that are relevant and beneficial to the community and your probable investor. This will require a lot of brainstorming and planning but it will be well worth the effort.
