Floral arrangements have become a “must-have” in interior decoration. It has become a focal point in most table arrangements at parties and other private or corporate events. Flowers bring in a touch of nature, a special ambiance of tranquillity or vivacity dependent on the colour and type or floral arrangement done. Floral arrangements definitely add a touch of finished look on any room. One need not break the bank for floral centrepieces. There are a lot of easy and inexpensive ways to do flowers. Here are some tips on how to create a floral centrepiece.
Where will you put the floral centrepiece? Be clear cut with this decision. The type of arrangement that you aspire to create should be “in theme” with the area where you intend to put the arrangement. If you intend to create a centrepiece for the dining room table, see to it that you match the flowers with the decor of the room. If you plan to create several centrepieces for a private reception or event i.e. wedding or birthday, coordinate the floral arrangement with the theme.
What vase will you use? A perfect vase for the dining table is a shallow container so that the flowers can be arranged as if flowing horizontally. If the flower centrepiece will be used for a luau party, then you can use a wicker basket for a vase for the flowers. You are not limited as to the type of vase you use. You can use jars, tall pitchers, cans or pots and it will be alright. Make sure though that you line up or put in the vase a soaked (water) floral foam. The floral foam will hold up the flowers and at the same time its source of water.
What flowers will you use? Again, the choice depends on the occasion or theme or motif of a room. For formal arrangements, you cannot go wrong with roses. For an informal set up, choose different coloured mums, gerberas, carnation or lilies. If you have access to tropical plants such as orchids and anthuriums, these will go well for a summer party floral centrepiece. Go easy when adding greens such as pine leaves and ferns.
What accessories will you add? Small pebbles, cherry tomatoes, coloured stones or marbles will make a creative impact on glass vases. Waterproof Tivoli lights will be stunning. If the vase you will use is an ordinary clay pot, you can hide most of the pot with foliage. Hang them low at sides. You can add a tapered candle in the middle of the arrangement or stick a silk butterfly artfully in the floral arrangement. The possibilities are endless. You just need to get creative.
How to arrange the flowers. There are so many ways on how to arrange a centrepiece. For a beginner, the easiest way is to gather a bunch of flowers of 12 to 14 pieces, tie them up nice and tight whilst making sure that the flowers appear as one rounded bouquet. Trim the stems evenly then put the flowers in a vase. Fill in the spaces with fern, aster and other greenery. Add the accessories and you are done.
