Aluminium Venetian Blinds Or Wooden Venetian Blinds?
Venetian blinds are amongst the most versatile types of blind you can choose for a window covering and can often be more attractive than curtains or other types of blinds, such as rollers or vertical blinds.
Not only are they quieter to use thanks to their horizontal, tight-fitting design, they are also easy to clean, easy to maintain and, importantly, easy to install. They also suit almost any kind of window, from a small bathroom window, through a panoramic, wide bedroom window to a tall French patio door.
But once you’ve decided that the Venetian blind is the one you want to install in your home or office, you are then faced with the choice of wooden or aluminium styles and the choices then become almost endless!
So here are some ideas for what to use when.
In The Home
For public rooms like the living room or the dining room it will very much depend on the rest of the decor which type of Venetian blind you choose. For light, airy, natural looking rooms keep the theme going with wooden blinds. Choose a lighter wood to enhance the ambience. If the room is darker, with big, leather furniture or dark wood tables, stick to wood for the blinds but choose a wood colour that matches.
For more modern rooms, boasting high tech equipment and neutral colours then an aluminium Venetian blind would work. As aluminium comes in many colours, you could consider using them to add a splash of colour to an otherwise predominantly white room, or use a matt silver to further the modern look.
The same goes for bedrooms, though you’ll want a blind that keeps out the light best in this room, so aluminium would be more suitable in my experience.
In the kitchen aluminium would be easier to clean but wood might be more suitable to a traditional country-style design – this is a judgement call for you!
For bathrooms the only choice is aluminium as it is easy to clean and won’t warp over time with constant exposure to water in the air. A neutral white would match a tiled bathroom (though need cleaning more often!).
In The Office
Whereas there may be certain offices that could benefit from the wooden style of Venetian blind, they are few and far between. The aluminium Venetian blind is far more suitable and practical, as it is harder wearing and will stand the up to the rigours of a busy office and constant use better.
You aren’t sacrificing looks for practicality, however. As the colour choices available with aluminium slats is so diverse, you can use them to brighten up an otherwise drab office space, reflect your company’s values and colour scheme or even advertise yourself.
Consider alternating colour slats that match your brand, for example, or, if you want to spend a little bit extra, you could even have your company logo painted onto the slats so that when the blinds are down it is displayed through the window to the outside world – fantastic advertising!
