Sore Throat Tests
When conducting a sore throat test, a doctor will conduct a physical exam which is the same for both adults and children. The exam will include using an instrument that is lighted to see down your throat, your nasal passages and your ears.
He will then check for swollen glands by gently feeling your neck and thereafter use a stethoscope to listen how you are breathing.
With these tests, he will take a sterilized swab and rub it at the back of the throat. He will take the sample to the lab to be tested and after a few minutes the results are normally ready for accuracy, they are normally taken to another lab for 24-48 hours.
If the test comes back positive you have a bacterial infection but if negative you have a viral infection. However, the doctor will wait for the most accurate results so as to determine the cause of the infection.
There are other tests that the doctor has to take before he can make a final diagnosis. These include
* Allergy tests- you may be advised to visit an allergist if the doctor suspects that the sore throat is due to an allergy.
* Your doctor may ask for a small sample of your blood for a CBC. The result of this produces a count of the blood cells in your blood. It counts red blood cells and white cells to determine the total hemoglobin in the blood. If normal or below normal can elevate if the sore throat is caused by viral or bacterial infection. It assesses the anemic condition of a patient.
* You may be referred to other specialist incase the infection may be more serious than a bacterial infection or a viral infection.
Mainly a sore throat likely to have been caused by a viral infection does not require medication as it only lasts five to seven days. Sore throat tests for the health of individuals and populations are assessed for different reasons. If not sever other treatments can be considered as per the doctors diagnosis.
Whether it is the strep sore throat or the sore throat, the throat swab is a common test in both. In an allergy test, your skin is exposed to substances that cause allergies and later on an observation is conducted for any allergic reactions.
The results of these tests can determine or confirm if symptoms and signs such as wheezing, sneezing and skin rashes are allergy caused. These would enable the doctors to know if your sore throat is allergy based, viral or anti bacterial caused.
After the sore throat test, some of the results that doctors come up with as the causes include:
– Common cold- it is an infection of your respiratory tract. It is basically harmless but it does not always feel that way. Common cold in advanced stages could lead to other major diseases, sore throat being one of them.
Telling if one has sore throat is very easy but diagnosing it is what is hard that is why taking a test is advisable since if ignored it can be dangerous.
