Oklahoma City is the capital of the state of Oklahoma and it is also the county seat. The city can be found in the Frontier Country region in Central Oklahoma. The city is situated on the tallgrass and mixed-grass prairie section of the Great Plains. You will find that geographically Oklahoma City lies in the Sandstone Hills region of the state. Here there are two species of oak growing there. These are the Blackjack Oak and the Post Oak. Oklahoma City’s northern part and its suburbs are found in the ecological region of Cross Timbers.

As you look around this city you will find there are three lakes which lie within the city’s limits. These lakes are Lake Hefner, Lake Stanley Draper and Lake Overholser. The location of Lake Hefner is at the Southeastern quarter of Oklahoma City. The largest of these lakes which is Lake Stanley Draper can be found in the sparsely populated far southeast part of Oklahoma City. And finally Lake Overholser can also be seen near the Southeastern area of the city along with Lake Hefner.

For visitors to this city you will find plenty of activities to do and see. Of these you many enjoy a visit to Science Museum Oklahoma. This museum was formerly known as the Kirkpatrick Science and Air Space Museum. In the museum you will find many different exhibits on science, aviation and there is also an IMAX theater. Within the museum you will also get to see the International Photography Hall of Fame. This hall of Fame has many exhibits of photographs and there is a large collection of cameras. The International Photography Hall of Fame also honors people who have made significant contributions to the art and science of photography.

Oklahoma City also has two great amusement parks where you and your family can enjoy themselves at. These parks are White Water Bay Water Park and the Frontier City Theme Park. In the Frontier City Park you will discover a theme park which is centered around the “Old West”. At this park you can witness the gunfight which took place at the OK Corral in the olden days. You can check out the various shops which are found lining the main street of “Frontier City”. This theme park also hosts a national concert circuit in its amphitheater during the summertime.

A good museum to visit would be that of the 45th Infantry Division Museum. Here you will see many exhibits which honor those who served in the 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma National Guard and also the Oklahoma Militia after Oklahoma became a state. From this museum you should visit the Oklahoma City Zoo. At this zoo you will see many varieties and species of wild animals. Here you will have the chance of seeing animals like gorillas, wolves, snakes and many others in enclosures which are like their natural habitats.
