The Thrill of Paintball Victory
Everyone’s heard the cliche “The Thrill of Victory and The Agony of Defeat”. But have you experienced it? There is no thrill of victory like the victory of a paintball battle. Two teams at their base camp waiting for the whistle to blow and begin their campaigns, strategy thought out and the plan of action in mind. Everyone is tense and trigger fingers are itchy. The butterflies are beginning to form in your gut and if you could get them to fly in formation you’ll be all set.
The whistle blows and everyone is off. The sound of paintballs go whizzing by your head as you try to keep out of sight. You make your way down field about 15 feet and find a good location to stop. You poke your head up with your weapon in your shoulder at the ready and you squeeze one off and someone from the enemy team gets a splat on the facemask. It wasn’t your best shot but it’ll do. You move again another 10 feet and find your self in a great position. Your team members are one directly in front of you and another behind you about 10 feet away. You quickly look back and fourth and see that base camp is still fine and holding.
You can see part of the enemy team directly across from you on the opposite side of the field. Open targets? Not yet and you take a chance to bob up to take a shot but nothing is available. You move slightly forward and again bob up for a shot and catch an enemy team member in the side as he dives for cover. That’s two notches for you so far as you hear the paintballs whizzing by. The team member in front of you signals that there are two enemy fighters ahead and to the right. He signals to your third team member, the one behind you, to lay down cover fire while to two of you run hit the ground roll and destroy the remaining two enemy team members across the field. Good shot, you took out the one of the left and your team leader took out the one on the right. Your plan couldn’t have worked better.
Not everybody was credited with a kill but you got three. Guess you were at the right place at the right time and no one on your team was hit. Your team leader, the guy in front of you, was in charge of strategy and the team member who stayed behind was your team’s best sniper. Everybody got plenty of shots off but you were the expert rifleman today. You were the hero not only did you save the lives of your fellow team members but you also received a medal for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Don’t forget when playing paintball keep your head down and your weapon pointed down range. Be safe and live to play another day.
