Faro in Portugal is New Favourite With UK Travellers
Car hire company Rhino has recently seen car hire bookings for Faro in Portugal overtake those of the Costa del Sol in Spain, which was previously their most popular rental point.
Most of the bookings have come from UK tourists who are still trying to shake off the effects of a miserable winter and are looking for some holiday sunshine. Faro, which is a seaside city located in the south of Portugal, seems to be the new favourite among these British tourists, which is no wonder as it has so much to offer. One of the biggest draws to Faro is the wealth of golfing opportunities with the Algarve area having some of the world’s best golf courses.
A golf party from Barrow in the UK did not let the ash cloud put them off their annual trip to Portugal. Arriving at Liverpool airport they found their Easyjet flight had been cancelled. But one of the party of 16, Norman Mason, called his wife who told him that there was another flight that day, from Blackpool airport.
He said: “It was a bit of a fluke that I was in touch with my wife and we were able to make contingency plans at short notice.
“As it happens, the flight from Blackpool was delayed and we were rerouted around the ash clouds but we never felt any danger.”
The golfers spent a week at a luxury golf complex in the Algarve and enjoyed their time thoroughly. Depending on what you are looking for Faro is very different in the on and off-season periods. As a fun party capital in the summer it takes some beating, but if you want to avoid the crowds then winter is a much more pleasant time of year to travel to Faro.
In the months through January and March not only can you have the luxury of having a wild, windswept beach to yourself but the temperatures are mild and enjoyable. There is no need to worry about getting sunburnt at this time of year either, although i’d still recommend wearing sun cream, but if you spend a fair bit of time outdoors you will still get a very healthy tan. In comparison the summer months regularly see temperatures well into 30 degrees celcius and so you should come prepared with a good strength sun cream and a hat!
January through to March is for many the best time of year to really appreciate what the city of Faro has to offer including some attractive Moorish and colonial architecture in the best traditions of Portugal. You can take a leisurley walk around the beautiful streets of the historical parts of the city or pick up the pace in the more cosmopolitan downtown.
Faro is easily accessible from Faro airport which receives flights and charter packages from major destinations all over mainland Europe. Among them low cost flight carrier Jet2 has just launched new flights from East Midlands airport to Faro. One good way to ensure your mobility in Faro is to rent a car for the duration of your trip.
