Don’t Forget the Kitchen Sink!

It doesn’t matter whether you are installing a brand new kitchen or whether you are simply replacing a few cupboards and drawers – the kitchen sink is an essential element that needs to be as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional. When it comes to choosing a new kitchen sink, it is not a decision that should be made lightly as careful consideration should be taken as to what style and features you require. If you follow these hints then the task of choosing a stylish kitchen sink will be made all the less daunting.

The first decision you need to make is how often you will be using the kitchen sink. If you have a dishwasher then don’t fool yourself into thinking that this means you will use your sink any less. There are some items such as bulky tins and pots which you will always need to wash by hand. This is especially true for larger families where the requirements are likely to be much different to those of a smaller family. If you do have a somewhat larger family then this doesn’t mean you have to sacrafice style as there will be a wide range of kitchen sinks for you to choose from. A quick browse on a kitchen hardware site will reveal a vast array or single, double and half sinks all available in a wide selection of materials.

Try to choose a sink that balances both stle and functionality. A few years ago people went through a phase of getting rid of their old fashioned butler-style sinks, replacing them with modern chrome sinks. In hindsight this may have been something of a mistake as today the ‘retro’ look is very much back in fashion. White ceramic kitchen sinks will complement the look of any kitchen, especially when paired with chrome taps. You can still buy sinks with a retro styling, however many of them have been styled to fit in a little better with the modern kitcheb.

The benefit of choosing a ceramic sink is that they are scratch resistant and shock resistant. They are also able to withstand most temperatures and will cost around the same price as a normal chrome sink – just make sure you that you dont accidentally drop any crockery or glassware into the empty sinks as it is sure to shatter.

Stainless steel kitchen sinks used to be all the rage a few years ago, however they have recently fallen out of fashion as stylish new materials such as Asterite and Corian have gained popularity. A lot of these sinks tend to be circular bowls which look very trendy, however they can be a little susceptible to heat damage.

It is clear to see why chrome sinks are so popular today as not only are they hard wearing, but they also come in a range of chic designs so you are sure to be able to find a style which will fit in with the look of your kitchen.
