How to Moisturize For Various Skin Types
Today, more than ever women are often clamoring for a simple and effective method or system to care for their skin. This can go for men as well, for more males are realizing the importance of caring for their faces. It’s really simple and only involves four steps of cleansing, toning, moisturizer and eye cream. The only add on you might need to do would be to integrate a weekly mask, although not necessary, when the correct basics are used.
A person should look for a cleanser that not only effectively removes all of a person’s makeup, but also actively removes any dirt or grime from the face as well. The cleanser should be noncomedogenic, as well as non-analgesic. This simply means that the ingredients should not invite for the clogging of pores of the forming of acne. The product should be non-abrasive, and contain gentle buffers such as aloe or chamomile to soothe the skin. Some facial cleaners also double as eye makeup removers, but most require a separate product for that purpose. There are many varieties of facial washes from cleansing foams, cleansing waters to facial towelettes.
A toner is designed for bringing back the PH balance to the skin so the alkaline side balances out the acidity, as well as removing excess debris the cleanser did not pick up. Other words for toner include freshener and astringent. All are designed for the same purpose, with the only difference being the skin types they are designed for. Fresheners are alcohol free and are meant for dry and sensitive skin. Toners are for a normal or a combination skin with a small amount of alcohol added, as to not dry out the skin. Astringents were designed for oily or acne prone faces and contains the highest amount of alcohol, but not so much that the skin will be stripped of its moisture barrier.
The moisturizer should be a multi action formula in that it contains a physical sun block of at least an SPF 15 or higher, no matter what skin type will be wearing it. There are also chemical sunscreens, but they can irritate the skin due to the synthetic ingredients. Oily complexions should steer towards a water-based formula that is oil free, but still contains hydrators without the excess oil. Normal and combination skins often have a choice of going with either a lotion or emulsion depending on if their skin if more on the oilier or drier side.
Many skin care users mistake placing a facial moisturizer on the eye area to save a step in the process. This is not a good idea, as the skin around the eye area has only a tenth of the thickness of the skin around the face. Eye creams are specifically made for that sensitive area, because it is one of the few parts on the body that does not produce moisture. A small amount of this eye cream, lightly dotted around the orbital bone is all that’s needed for effective moisturizing.
Lastly, the facial cleanser should perform a double or sometimes triple duty of removing makeup, thoroughly but gently cleansing the skin, and in some cases an eye makeup remover as well. The moisturizers should be non-pore clogging and have a built in sunscreen. The toners should make the skin feel clean and fresh, but not tight and taught. A skincare routine need not take more than 3 to 5 minutes in the morning at the very most.
