Brighten Up Your Home For Holiday Guest

While you may not think that you have time to create a magical environment during the Holiday Season, you probably do have time to make a few changes that can create a festive Holiday appearance and a welcoming atmosphere for your guest. It will only require a short amount of time, and the results can be extremely transforming for your home. Here are a few ideas to help you use your valuable time and prepare for the Holidays quickly and easily.

The next time you return home from a visit to the store, slow down as you approach the entrance to your home; and take a proper look at the exterior. This is what your guest will see when they come for a visit during the Holidays. Could the sidewalk use a brisk scrubbing, or the porch maybe? Removing unsightly cobwebs and weeds can brighten up the exterior dramatically. With a couple of hours and a few cleaning materials, you can have the outside entrance looking clean and fresh in no time. Adding a few easy touches like an outdoor rug with a Christmas motif, and a single wreath can provide a welcoming touch to any doorway.

With the cold snaps since Halloween, your plantings may be looking scraggly and dried out. Remove the summer plantings and replace with poinsettias for a bright Christmas touch. Poinsettias’ are available in reds and whites so they can be planted using both colors to provide a diverse selection of beauty for your guest as they walk up the pathway to your door. Beautiful bunches of fountain grass can be tied with bright red bows, and placed in a tall basket beside the doorway for a fascinating affect that can be seen from the road.

Your next inspection should be in the entryway inside the doorway. Often times the entryway becomes the drop off point for shoes, jackets, mittens, and many other items discarded by our loved ones. Take a deep breath and summon everyone to gather their belongings and place them where they should be stored. A trash bag can hold the rest of the dropped mail, circulars, and old newspapers. After cleaning the entryway bring in an area rug; a brightly jewel toned oval rug in the traditional greens and reds of Christmas can liven up any hallway. Place a table in the entryway that can hold a selection of candles and a crystal bowl filled with unique ornaments, and the lit candles will sparkle and glimmer in their reflections.

Your nest stop is the living room where your guest will gather for fun and laughter during the holidays. With a few accent colors you can transform a living room into a beautiful festive gathering place to share the Holidays with your friends and family. Place a large area rug in front of the fireplace; if possible find a rug that has threads of silver and gold for a rich looking floor covering that will glimmer in front of the fire; a perfect place for a family photo, or even an extra, comfortable seating area when you toss down a few large pillows.

Decorating your home does not have to be accomplished by an extreme amount of professional looking decorations. Simple touches that say warmth and love live here are quite enough. Bring in the tree, and decorate with the ornaments that mean the most, let the children help, it may not look like a magazine picture, but the effect will be grand indeed. Use throw pillows in Christmas colors, add a few bowls of ornaments, some garland over the mantel and around the doorway, and your living room is ready for guest during the Holidays.

Your guest will be greeted by the serene beauty of your home inside and out, and will enjoy their time spent in the comfort and happy atmosphere of relaxed host and hostess. So relax, do things the easy way; present a clean, uncluttered environment and your guest will leave after the Holidays with exceptional memories and feelings of thankfulness for your Holiday hospitality.
