A Confectionary Blast From The Past
There are lots of things that remind us of the good old days. Sometimes it’s an old song or a certain smell we’d forgotten that we liked but more often than not it’s something we like to put in our mouths! It’s those childhood sweeties, which always make me drool and remind me of spending my pocket money. Do you remember racing to the corner shop to pick out your favourite penny or half penny sweets?
Kids just don’t seem to have the same lifestyle these days as I had growing up. Do they still ‘call for each other’? I remember going around to friends houses unannounced Levitra and having them knock on my door too before the boom in mobile phones when popping to the neighbours to ‘call for’ their kids to ‘play out’ was the done thing. These days it seems like kids have diaries and schedules and mobile phones and email addresses and things which, when I was little I would have associated more with an office worker than an eight year old!
One thing is for certain though, kids still love sweeties and while we can’t give them the (probably posthumously romanticised) childhood experiences we had, we can give them retro sweet jars crammed with the sorts of chews, foamies, saucers and gobstoppers that we used to indulge in growing up.
Thrilling Treats
Unwrapping retro sweet jars and seeing all the delicious treats through the transparent plastic is nothing short of thrilling. It’s just so unexpected that as an adult that you’ll receive a jar crammed with all the best sweeties from your childhood and cipla viagra they make good presents for all kinds of occasions. Equally, for some children of this generation there might be some sweets included that they’ve never tasted before such as chocolate mice or mojos.
If you have a friend who recently passed their driving test, or started at University why not get retro sweet jars which feature the message ‘congratuations on passing your test, ‘ or ‘good luck at university’ printed on the label for them? You can get the labels of retro sweet jars customised with any name and any short message you want and it makes the gift even more exciting.
Dentist Devils
So, we all grew up munching sweets but we also got told how bad it was for our teeth. Now that we’re grown-ups we can probably munch the contents of retro sweet jars without feeling too guilty though, so long as we give our gnashers a good scrubbing afterwards!
Although sweets are known as having a bad reputation there are lots of other things which we consume which are equally bad or worse for our teeth. Fizzy drinks are one such culprit with cola being incredibly astringent and corrosive, then there are fruit juices which can also weaken enamel on teeth and coffee and red wine can stain them. With so many dental devils out there, sweets are comparatively saintly.
Super Memories
Some of my fondest childhood memories were of spending time with my big brother (who I thought was a big strong superhero) and gobbling the sweets we bought from the corner shop. Back then we had a few favourites, I had a particular weakness for Fruit Salads and he was much happier to get gobstoppers. In fact, I distinctly remember him getting a really spicy-hot gobstopper Tadacip with some devils on the packet and I once tried to eat one in my back garden and ended up spitting it in to my mother’s flower beds. It was too hot for my little taste buds and I only wanted to eat it so I looked strong and tough like I thought he did.
There might not be too many spicy gobstoppers in retro sweet jars but there are plenty of regular ones and lots of other treats that bring back memories too. Such as: Sherbert Dip Dabs (the classic sherbet with lollypop treat), Candy Necklaces (bitten and flicked at teenagers throughout the 90s), Refresher Bars (good for gluing your jaws together!), Fizz Whizz (those crackling sweets that explode on your tongue), Love Hearts (perfect for sending those romantic messages to schoolyard crushes), Foam Shrimps (which are squigy-licious) Flying Saucers (the spaced-out sherbet and rice paper combo) and Candy Sticks (formerly known as candy cigarettes before grown-ups realised how naughty that was!) Wasn’t that naughty though? There were liquorice pipes back then too weren’t there? Imagine that now, a ten year old puffing on a liquorice pipe and eating candy cigarettes! It’d never happen.
