Cain cigars are one of the fine offerings from the Oliva Cigar Company. Melanio Oliva started growing tobacco in 1886 in Cuba. In the 1920’s his son Hipolito took over. His son Gilberto started brokering tobacco, and the Oliva Cigar Company continues to this day with Gilberto and his family growing Cuban-seed tobacco in Nicaragua.

Cain cigars weren’t introduced until 2009, and they faced plenty of competition from an already heavily saturated cigar market. The Cain cigar comes in four sizes: the Toro is six inches long with a ring gauge of 50, the Robusto is 5.7 inches long with a ring gauge of 50, the Torpedo is six inches long with a ring gauge of 54, and the Double Toro is six inches long with a ring gauge of 60. You can purchase these with either a Habano or a Maduro wrapper.

In Spanish, “Maduro” means “ripe,” and in the context of cigars it speaks to the longer fermentation process, as well as the darker colors achieved in the wrapper. Sometimes, however, it solely refers to the color and not to the wrapper making process, so you can have a cigar that is “Maduro” only in terms of the color. The Habano wrapper is generally a lighter color, but it can also signify that the cigar was produced with Cuban seed, which often means the Cuban tobacco seed was grown elsewhere.

Many of the reviews on the Cain cigar have complimented the wrapper, and have been largely positive. Some commented about how powerful and robust this smoke was, while pointing out how smooth the overall experience of the cigar was as well. Other review comments included things like the ash color being described as light, without flaking, and holding on strongly.
