4 Types of Questions For Getting to Know Someone
Let\’s face it, the only way to build a good strong team for your entrepreneurial business to pick up the phone and build a relationship with the people who are showing an interest in working with you. This sounds scary, I know. But if you have the tools you need to get started some of the fear will suddenly turn into building a stronger business for yourself. There are four categories of questions to ask people so you can begin building a relationship with them.
Once you\’ve established that you are talking with the right person and let them know that you are there to assist them. Ask them if they have a \”family\”. This will help them to feel comfortable with you. They will know that you care about them and you are there to help them and their family. When they answer you, be sure to really listen to what they say. Be yourself and let them know you heard them by repeating what they said.
Now ask them about what they do, what\’s their \”occupation\”? So many people really enjoy what they do and they are proud to share with someone who genuinely wants to know what they\’re good at. A person that\’s been involved with an occupation for any amount of time has spent many hours perfecting their skills, and they\’ll feel good that someone actually wants to know about them. Be sure to really pay attention to them and find out how much time they spend every day in their current occupation. How long have they been doing it? Let them know that you feel they really must love what they do. And repeat what you just learned from them so they know you are truly listening to them.
Great by now you\’re really starting to learn about your new friend. Wouldn\’t it be great to learn what they enjoy doing with their family and the money they earn in their occupation? Find out what they enjoy doing for \”recreation\” in their free time. Maybe they have a hobby or activity they enjoy doing with family and friends. Be sure to enjoy listening to them. Try not to turn the story into what you enjoy doing too. I know it\’s hard for me not to attempt relating with people I don\’t know well yet by telling them about what I enjoy doing too. But at this point, the conversation is all about them. They aren\’t interested in knowing about you yet. Be patient though, they will when they discover how much you really care about them and genuinely want to get to know how you can help them find what they\’re looking for.
Lastly you want to ask them about how much \”money\” they are used to earning. And more importantly how much money they want to earn as they become an entrepreneur. This may be an uncomfortable subject for some people but if your conversation has been going well and flowing naturally they won\’t have a problem sharing this information with you. Also, this will really help you to gauge if this person is going to be friendly, coachable, and teachable. Just realize that when you\’re talking to someone about money, they can change their minds very quickly. So be sure to listen to them but don\’t worry too much about what they actually tell you.
So there you go. Get on the phone and make some new friends. These four categories of questions will really help you to start building a great new relationship with anyone. Practice with people you just bump into in the grocery store, restaurant or gas station and most of all have fun!
