How Icelandic Volcano Ash is Crippling UK Business
Well here we are in the UK under a cloud of volcanic ash with not a plane or chemtrail in the sky! And for the first time in my life that I can remember anyway, British Airspace is closed down.
So who would of thought that Iceland would succeed where the might of Hitler’s Third Reich failed and actually defeat British aviation. The ash has also caused much confusion amongst the populace of great Britain with rumours abounding as to the length of time that British air space will be closed down ranging from just a few more hours to many months, with some even saying it could go on forever there is also much conjecture as to the health effects that the molten ash is having on the people of western Europe, many people are reporting a tingling sensation in their lips and there are stories of high number of people with serious repertory problems. The health protection agency say there is no need for concern but that those with asthma and other breathing difficulties should stay inside or that if they have to go out that they should be sure to have plenty of their medication with them.
Personally I have seen no health effects from the volcanic ash rumoured to have been descending from the sky upon my breathing despite twenty some years as a 60 Marlboro lights a day smoker and my breathing remains relatively good for someone of my advancing years, although for a few seconds when I first heard about the tingling sensation people are experiencing in their lips I did have a short imaginary reaction. I have allowed it to affect my life though by changing any ideas of a foreign holiday I was considering taking in May to that of a UK adventure with Cornwall, Devon and Scotland vying for my intention and imminent arrival.
There has been one potentially serious effect on my life though which is purely down to the volcanic ash. I run a small business producing cell phone radiation shields a product designed to combat ever increasing cell phone cancer statistics and this new business venture has literally just taken off (no pun intended!) but temporally my cell phone safety business has ground to a halt. The cell phone radiation protection pouches due for export to Australia and the United States of America have been grounded and are sitting amongst the thousands of other packages in logistic centres around the UK and are waiting the clearing of the skies of this menacing ash.
If I could retrieve my consignments the only other option open to me would be time consuming sea freight so my only other option is to make more and this is a serious drain on my working capital and something that frankly I can’t afford as a fledgling business. I pray for clear skies because we are expecting to see a surge in sales of our products as understand cell phone radiation dangers and start to place orders for my blocsock but until that time I have to remain philosophical.
I’m thankful for the information and transport superhighways of today that allow me to run a global business from my home but when something like this happens we all realise just how vulnerable we are when things are beyond our control. It was the ingenuity of man that lead to the invention of the aeroplane and the intercontinental travel that we now take for granted yet one small act of god can put us all back centuries.
