Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Padron cigar company, the Anniversary 1964 cigar is the culmination of the Padron family’s expertise and knowledge. It was honed in the tobacco farming business since the 1850′s-originally in the famous Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba. Like many a master tobacconist, though, Jose Orlando Padron came to the United States from Cuba in the early 1960′s with little more than a few dollars and a dream. That dream became reality in 1964 with the production of this fine cigar. The Padron Anniversary lines are among the rarest and hardest to find cigars in the world. As one of the largest boutique cigar makers, the Padron family has an uncompromising commitment to quality, limiting their cigar production each year, with the Anniversary series using only the best tobacco from each year’s crop.

Like all Padron cigars, the Padron 1964 Anniversary is a double Puro. This means that all of the wholly Nicaraguan tobacco is sun-grown. Though often associated with power, the sun-grown tobacco of the 1964 Anniversary line is characterized more by a combination of full flavors rather than sheer strength. The tobaccos are carefully matured for four years before they are selected for the Anniversary blend.

Square pressed to resemble the Cuban cigars Jose Orlando remembers smoking in Cuba, these premium cigars are box-shaped rather than round. Indicative of its enduring value, the 1964 Anniversary comes dressed in a double band in which the trademark band overlaps a control band that bears a serial number which guarantees authenticity of the cigar.
The Maduro wrapper is an attractive dark brown. This torpedo is a wonderful exemplar of a flawless, well-made cigar. In appearance, there is no finer cigar than the 1964 Anniversary.

The draw was picture perfect, and the burn was consistent and even. Pre-light, the aroma of the 1964 Anniversary is a light tobacco-presaging the full-flavor dominance to come. It must be remembered, however, that this delicately flavored cigar is noted for its superior balance rather than strength- so be sure to slow down a little if it begins to get hot.
