Grand Parent’s Day

Today is grand parent’s day, enough of the usual routine that they would bring us to the mall and to the paintball field where we would practically spend the entire day playing and having them waiting outside, patiently. A time-out to the usual scenario when we would be arguing about whose fault it was and who aimed that paintball gun that got me out of the game. I am sure it makes them happy seeing us playing paintball even if it means an entire day of sitting down, standing up, sleeping on the benches and chatting with some guardians of other kids playing, despite of these still they haven’t shown any signs of boredom nor have they shown irritation towards the game or even towards us. This may be because paintball has also been a therapy for them because it is where we remain as kids, as the kids they used to pamper so much. I can tell by the looks of their faces that they are as excited when we are planning about another paintball game. They are supportive grandparents, maybe because of the fact that our choice of hobby is one that can build both physical and emotional strength. No grandparent would ever want his or her grandchild to get hurt that is why in the absence of parents the grandparents are on the “nanny duty”. Grandparents are very supportive on activities that they think would build you as a person, more importantly activities that will build your character. Paintball is one such activity because it teaches or builds characters like determination, perseverance, honesty and patience, our grandparents would accompany us to every game and basically they would practically give up their own happiness for us. And we, as their grandchildren, are very grateful.

We planned a dinner for two in a fine hotel restaurant and got an accommodation for them. An entire day of living a life, with just the two of them where they will be pampered and free from “nanny-duty” everything they want and need in order to relax was all taken cared of by us the grateful grandchildren. We have hoped that giving them this time to relax will eventually lead them to re-living their younger years when they too were enjoying each others’ company without worrying about their grandchildren. They were very thankful for giving them such an opportunity to really relax and have all the time in the world. That was very little compared to what they have been doing for us over the years. They have witnessed every milestone in our lives and here they are grateful of the very little thing we did for them. Sometimes we have to pause and think of them also, we have to realize that even if it makes them happy to always be there for you, it would be great if you would also make them feel your presence. They also need you, and that is most of the time of their growing old.
