Home Run For Book

One of the most successful wealth-building specialists, Dr. Harlan Kilstein, may be familiar to you. He has written about succeeding in just about everything in a a variety of books and articles. Harlan is now addressing baseball, and you will want to read his upcoming book to gain insight into how you can apply what you know to anything. He will discuss determination, discipline, and staying informed and aware.

The importance of determination, the foundation of Dr. Kilstein’s principles, showed its strength in quite an unusual environment. Many years ago, Dr. Kilstein took his brother to a baseball game. They were both happily enjoying the game when the inevitable foul ball headed their way. Dr. Kilstein, of course, was fascinated by the hordes around him trying to snag that ball. The ball, however had other ideas and landed right in Harlan’s brother’s lap. A little bemused, Harlan asked his brother for an explanation. Believe it or not, Harlan’s brother simply stated that he had decided that catching a foul ball is what was going to happen that day. Determination was in his eyes, and so the ball landed in his lap.

There is is a similar reason that a ball hit hard goes foul rather than fair. As you know, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth hit an enormous number of home runs without the benefit of coaches and modern medicine. Yet they were able to blast more runs than Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire. The answer lies in their dogged determination. It also lies in the source of their determination – it came from within.

They added discipline to their determination. Discipline from within! When you are presented with anxiety, tell it to go away. After all, Mickey Mantle did not hit home runs by thinking about his anxiety. He was concentrating on hitting a home run.

Next up, stay informed. Applied to baseball, this means know your game! For Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth, this meant really understanding the game they were playing. They knew what pitches would allow for a home run and what would not. When the right pitch arrived, out of the park it went. They were patient and just did what they knew they had to.

Be aware and prepare. We are not just talking about exercising out and eating properly to make sure you are ready for whatever you pursue. For the application of baseball and home runs we are talking about locking your front leg so that your body is balanced and aligned and you are prepared to rotate your hips and swing as the ball approaches. Compare this with a hitter’s demeanor when he know he is getting walked. His preparation is totally different than it is when he is aiming for the bleachers!

Time is also something you can control in terms of your goals. For hitting a hoe run, this refers to hitting the ball at just the right moment so that energy from the incoming pitch is diverted to the outgoing ball. . Use your knowledge to time things just right. Stay determined, disciplined, informed and aware and the right opportunities will find you!
