Three Tips on Finding the Perfect Dog For You
Dogs are a man’s best friends and that has been proven time and again. If you are a pet lover like me, what’s more de-stressing than going home after a tiring day and seeing how thrilled and excited your little pup is to see you? Dogs are great companions when taking long walks to the park. They are responsive when you like to play around. And who gets the paper to you on time? Not to mention the fact they are the best defenders, too. But how do you choose the best pet for you? Here are some useful tips that you might want to consider when choosing the right dog for you.
– Size and Breed
When choosing the best dog for you and your family, you need to consider how big or how small you would like it to be. If you want cuddly and cute dogs, you may opt for lap dogs just large enough to be carried around or put in tiny doggy bags that you can bring to the mall or wherever. If you have an active lifestyle and would like a companion that can run with you every morning, then larger dogs such as the Weimaraners are great choices for you.
There are also some breeds which are more active than others. Active dogs are great for athletes and people who have active lifestyles. They require a higher level of activity to remain fit and healthy. All dogs require regular exercise so make sure that you understand and learn enough information regarding the dog breed you are considering.
– Your lifestyle
Believe it or not, there are some dog breeds which are too sensitive and do not like to be left alone for a long time. If you want to have a dog as a pet, make sure that you spend enough time to take care and play with him so he doesn’t feel left out. Dogs can undergo emotional stress too so be sure that you understand his needs and wants. If you are always on the go, then see to it that someone takes care of him while you are away.
Most dogs that are having behavioral problems tend to be agitated and fierce. If you notice your dog constantly barking like crazy or digging up around or acts unusual then these may be signs of attitude problems. Give him enough attention and interest and train him regularly.
– Age
Puppies which are between 1 to 6 months require extensive training and attention. This period is their formative months so you have to be sure that you give them the attention and the training that they need. If you do this, you can be sure that he will be in his best behavior while he is growing up. You need to be patient and dedicated in training him so that he’ll grow up happy and well-behaved.
Adult dogs can be great pets too especially if they have been previously trained. However, he might have also developed certain habits and behaviors which you may not be able to control at once. Adopting stray adult dogs can be a bad idea for some especially for those who doesn’t know how to properly train them. Most stray dogs can be quite aggressive and rude so you may need to keep a Taser with you if you want to keep an unsheltered dog as a pet.
