So You Want to Own a Daycare Center!
Owning your own Daycare center is one of the most promising and lucrative home-based businesses you can have. If you have a passion for taking care of children and serving your community this venture is something I will recommend to you. What you have to be aware of is that this is an undertaking that is not as easy as it seems. To pursue this venture you must have patience, diligence and a lot of money to make it work!
Just like any other business you don’t go into this venture blindly. You must prepare yourself with a business plan. Be clear with your purpose in putting up this project. Are you into it for the extra income or do you want to pursue the project on a non-profit service base objective? Base your plans for your project on your main purpose.
Make a feasibility study. Do your homework and look around the neighborhood. Is it feasible to put up a daycare center in your area? Are there other daycare centers? Is your location ideal enough? What facilities will you offer to your patrons? How many children can you accommodate? You must remember that you don’t only think about making profit when you put up a daycare center. For every income made you make you must render an equivalent service. A Daycare center is a huge responsibility to society. You are not just merely overseeing children. You must take care of their physical, mental and emotional needs as well. To be more specific you must be ready to provide meals and snacks for the children while they are in your premises. Children during their formative years get bored easily. You have to provide activities that will keep them busy during their stay with you. While parents entrust their children to you they expect that the children will be safe and well taken cared off. With this though in mind you have to make your premises child safe and child friendly. Be prepared with emergency kits and basic medicines. It is highly advisable that you also hire an assistant that has experience or a background in childcare. That way you are not single handedly taking care of the children.
Next on your to-do-list is how to generate funds to make your project work. To make this a legitimate business you have to register with the Small Business Administration and get a business license. You will need capital to smoothen your operations. If you have enough savings to make the Daycare center operational in the next 6 months then good! Otherwise you might need financial assistance from other sources. You can ask for donations from interested individuals like friends and family. You can approach your local government if they have low-interest loans or Daycare grants. If they don’t have any available ask for referrals to organizations and funding institutions that give grants or financial assistance to small businesses like yours. Ask what their requirements are. You can also approach your state government with your financial concerns.
