Thinking of Attending Massage Courses?
If you are thinking of attending massage courses then there are some things you are going to need to know. The prerequisites of these courses and what to expect from them are only two of many. You should also be aware of what you can do once you have completed the course as well.
Massage courses
Massage courses are offered by many different institutes and they will all have different prerequisites. Most of the schools will simply need you to have a high school diploma to get into the course. Some will give preference to people who have some higher education. The reason for this is that they wish for you to have some knowledge of anatomy, physiology, business and even psychology. Before you enter the program you may be subject to an interview where certain aspects of your personality will be assessed.
There are many areas that a massage course will cover. Anatomy is one part of the course as is physiology. Massage history, theory, technique and practice are important parts of the course. Kinesiology or the study of movement will also be part of the curriculum. The study of disease also known as pathology will be studied.
Physical therapy
Physical therapy is actually completely different to other types of massage therapy. People who wish to do this kind of therapy will need to study a degree in physical therapy. Of course the education qualifications needed for this profession will depend on the country you are in. There are many different career paths within physical therapy that you can look at. Some therapists will work at rehabilitation centres, private homes, fitness centres, sports training facilities and clinics. Of course it is also possible to work in care roles where you do not deal with patients as well.
Physical therapy training
When you are looking at physical therapy training you will find that there are many different specialisations. You can train for one of these or become a therapist that deals with a range of general problems. The physical therapy training that you will have to do will help you get your licence, which you need to legally practice.
There are many different curriculums when it comes to physical therapy training. You can get a physical therapy assistant degree that will usually take 2 years. There is also a bachelor’s to master’s degree that is available which allows you to get a bachelors and masters faster. If you have a degree in a different field then you may go for direct entry masters where you will get credit for any liberal arts requirements that you have completed. If you already have a certificate, bachelors or master’s degree then you can do a transitional DPT which will take around 2 years. This course will bridge the gap between the certification you already have and the doctor of physical therapy degree.
If you are thinking of attending massage courses or physical therapy training then you will need to be aware of all the courses. Some of the courses will take longer than others and you will need to keep that in mind. Also you have to remember that they will often cover different things.
