Baby Shower Ideas for the UK
A baby shower is a happy occasion. It celebrates a new life. Anyone can plan one such as a mother, sister, aunt or friend. There are several decisions that need to be made before the planning can start. Will the baby shower be formal? Does the food need to but sit down dinner or buffet style. Which time of day do you want the shower to be help are just a few examples.
Invitations can be formal and hand written, sent by mail. However, we are now in the computer age and Facebook, Myspace, and email have become very popular ways to get the word out.
If you choose an informal shower, as most do, it will make your menu much easier. The first thing to consider is you must have something available to drink for your guests. You may have anything from water, soda, tea and coffee or even a nice punch. You can put out appetizers or what some people would call finger foods. Examples of these foods would be chips and salsa, cheese and cracker tray, fruit and vegetable trays, or even chicken wings. Just remember the person you are planning it for and their likes and dislikes. This is who it is for.
Most people then will have a main course. Try and keep it simple. A big dish of lasagna, or even chicken would be suitable and very cost effective. This would allow for extra money. You are going to need it for the next part in planning the shower.
Let us not forget the cake. You can do an actual cake with frosting in the appropriate colors or even a diaper cake. Is the mom going to use cloth diapers or disposables? They make diaper cakes for both. If you choose a diaper cake you can then have some other dessert such as brownies, cookies, and even ice cream.
Decorations should be fun, festive, and in tune with the mother to be. Is she having a girl? Is she having a boy or maybe both?. If you do not know the sex then you can choose light greens, yellows, and even peach for your decorations. Streamers, balloons, and matching utensils are the norm. You can get matching napkins, spoons, forks and knives.
Last but not least you have the games. There are many to choose from. You can play “Don’t Say Baby”. This is an inexpensive game to play. Just give everyone clothes pins to wear. Whenever someone hears you say baby they can steal your clothes pin. When the shower comes to an end everyone counts their clothes pins and whomever has the most wins. Keep the games simple and fast moving and everyone will have fun.
Do your research on-line or even ask other moms for some ideas. Decide how long you want the shower to last and which time of day it will be held. This will help determine the flow. You want to make sure to leave time for the opening of gifts. Some showers this is down before the food, and even before the games. However, most showers leave this for last.
