Planning a Hen Party For Your Best Friend

Your best friend for the last 20 years is now tying the knot and it’s up to you to throw her hen party for her. While at the time she asked you to be the maid of honor, it sounded like no big deal, now that the wedding is a mere month away, it’s time to get down to business and start coming up with hen shower party ideas.

The key to a good hen night is organisation! Start with the basics of any good news story and you’ll have it all under control. The who, what, where, when and hows will make everything fall into place. With your who, make your guest list of all her favorite friends and most loved relatives. A word to the wise, don’t invite her mum and or most any person of her generation. Keep this hen party guest list of mainly like aged girls. Go over the list with the bride to be a few weeks in advance so that there is time to add names if she thinks of someone else later.

The what sounds easy as you know you’re going to be celebrating, but “what” can mean different things to different people. As the best friend, you know the bride better than anyone. Is she a pub hoping diva? Or would she prefer a nice sophisticated evening with fine wines and her friends gathered about reminiscing? Plan your events, whether it be a round of pubs in the local area or a fine restaurant with a private room so everyone can chat? The where comes naturally and you should ask around to several different places before deciding. While the bride likes to be consulted some, mostly she wants you to take care of everything so all she has to do is enjoy. If going the pub route, consider renting a limo to take you around so that everyone feels free to drink as they like without driving. While it may seem a bit pricey, it’s much cheaper than a DUI ticket. Plus, no one person has to abstain so as to be the designated driver. Make sure that you also pick up a banner, tiara or pin for the bride as a Hen Party favour to save in her scrap book. Most brides love for everyone to know that they’re the one celebrating the big day and have the attention focused on them.

The when part is tricky and usually done the weekend prior to the wedding, however, sometimes it’s actually done the night before. Check with the bride and see how she wants to play this as some brides actually want to get plenty of sleep the night before the big day. Plan on it starting around 7pm and running well past midnight and let the guests know this ahead of time too. How to throw a hen party is simple really when you get down to it. You simply have all the fun you’ve always had together but with a larger group of people. If the budget allows, plan a weekend away for the group of you. However, if finances are tight for everyone, keep that in mind as you plan your party.
