Why Water Is So Important To Human Health And Life

Water is the most precious liquid on the planet. We cannot live without it. In fact, more than 70% of the planets surface is covered in water. That is approximately 139 millions miles of water. With all of that water around us, it seems ironic that we cannot drink any of it. The fact is, we may be facing a real crisis, ironic or not. That is because over 97.5% of all the water on the planet is oceanic salt water. Okay so that leaves 2.5 percent and that is plenty of water, right? Wrong. Only one percent of the earth\’s fresh water supply is accessible to humankind. The rest is tied up in glaciers, or is so deep under the ground that we simply cannot reach it.

Dying Of Thirst At The Cellular Level

So why is water so important, beside the fact that we could literally die of thirst while standing in the ocean within twenty years? The answer might surprise you. A full 70% of the human body, much like the earth, is made of water. We learn as children that everyone and everything around us is made from zillions of tiny cells. Every single cell in the body needs water. In fact, two thirds of our body\’s weight is water. This means that a two hundred pound man would be carrying approximately 130 pounds of water weight.

First Is Air And Then Water

Why all these lovely facts about water, well, next to air, it is the most necessary thing we need to live. If you do not drink enough, you jeopardize your health, if you do not drink any-you jeopardize your life. As a general rule, a person can only live three to five days without water. As long as we are dinking plenty of good wholesome water, our cells will do their job perfectly. This means that the all-important metabolism can do its job, keeping us in ample supply of new cells.

Three To Five Days Without Precious Water Is Fatal

If we do not drink water for three days, our cells begin to fail. With our cells disrupted, our metabolism destroyed, and our system failing, our cells cannot make new cells. In short, we die what could be one of the worst deaths imaginable… death at the cellular level. We die from deep inside outwards. The three areas that would be affected almost immediately are…,

– Our nervous system: Without water, our nerves cannot do the function that they were created for, the transmission of important information to the brain. Water turns into electrolytes around the nerves, which is what the nerves use to transmit these important signals. Being without water is being without electrolytes. No water, no messages.

– Our muscles: Without our blood carrying a fresh and plentiful supply of water to the muscles, they stop functioning as well, but not without seizing up like the block of an old Chevy without oil. The cramps would be devastating.

– Our brain: The brain is a very delicate instrument. It is so fine-tuned and precisely calibrated that a decrease or even an increase in the amount of water in the brain cells by only one drop will slash your brain\’s performance capabilities by 30% or more. Now imagine what happens to a brain completely deprived of water. You can forget about the massive migraine you will experience, because you will be unable to think. There will be only stupor… and excruciating pain.

Tear Up The Organ Donor Card

This is just a taste of what happens to the human body when it is denied precious, life sustaining water. Without fresh, nutrient rich water flowing through our veins, our kidneys shut down, which is fine because there is no urine left in the body. Our kidneys and liver begin deteriorating inside us and begin poisoning our systems. Deadly toxins build up inside our organs. We would die before that happened but you can see why water is the most important sustainable element the human body needs next to oxygen.
