Anabolic State – What Does it Mean?

Anabolism and catabolism are two states of the body that are contradictory to each other. That is, the body must always be either in the anabolic or the catabolic state. While in the anabolic state the body gets energy, in the catabolic state it spends it.

What happens during anabolism?

During anabolism, body tissues acquire energy. This energy is required by the body to sustain itself and keep growing. It is essential for repairing damage in the body. Catabolism, despite being the destructive state, actually supplies the energy required for anabolism to take place.

What is the purpose of anabolism?

All essential nutrients for the body are supplied through the consumption of food. The process of eating and digesting is basically concerned with breaking these nutrients into smaller and smaller units, until they can be used for whatever specific reason in the body. Catabolism is the state in which this breaking down takes place. Anabolism is the state that follows in which these usable units are used in their designated places. For example, vitamin B12, found in eggs, is necessary for the growth of hair follicles. The vitamin, even if taken as a special food supplement, must be broken down to bodily usable units to serve its purpose.

Why should I try to increase my anabolic rate?

Anabolism is a growth and maintenance method. Therefore, the more you create conditions for it to work in, the more your body will grow in a healthy manner. There are many steroids available in the market, which are anabolic in nature. However, their effects are not very healthy and therefore steroids should be avoided at all costs. They work on the same basic principle: the more the anabolic state is encouraged the more the body grows and becomes stronger. This is the principle which athletes and body-builders abide by to achieve their goals. These goals comprise of growing body muscles (biceps) and becoming stronger.

How do I increase the anabolism of my body?

With proper diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, it is possible to increase the occurrence of the anabolic state of your body. A balanced diet that comprises of carbohydrates mainly derived from locally produced whole grains as cereals should be a staple. Local produce is more fresh and nutritive. Unlike processed food, it is not full of preservatives. Also, meat and fish are very important for the building and repairing of tissues and they should be consumed through low fat preparations. Vegetables and fruits are also of great importance as they have multiple vitamins and minerals. Milk is a natural wonder food that can even be considered an almost complete food because of the variety of nutrients in it.

Last, but not the least, is proper exercise. An ideal workout comprises of running, push-ups, sit-ups, squats and meditation. A personal trainer can guide you by working out with you and making an exercise regimen according to your bodily needs.
