What Are And What Causes Panic And Anxiety Attacks

An individual is said to be suffering from anxiety and panic attack is when he/she develops instant intense fear. The reason for the onset of such intense fear can be anything. For example, it can be due to a closed environment or due to an open environment as well. It can also happen when facing a tense situation. The most important cause of them all is the stress factor. Human beings who suffer from deep mental stress are the ones who are prone to this disorder. The readers must understand that anxiety and panic attacks are merely a feeling and not exactly a diseased condition. It is just a kind of mental imbalance where the individual feels something that is actually not.

Cumulative stress i.e. stress developed over a long period of time is the major cause for such a condition. For example, the particular individual would have grown in a suppressed environment where his/her parents might have imposed extreme pressure on him/her, then the stressful school environment and gradually the stress at working environment. All these factors can very well lead to panic and anxiety attacks. Other causes include heredity, phobic reasons, biological reasons like hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, compulsive disorder etc.

The intake of certain stimulants like caffeine or any other kind of drugs can also cause panic attacks. Pharmacological causes have also been reported in some cases i.e. the individual develops anxiety due to consumption of a prescribed drug. Consumption of alcohol and addiction to drugs (Like nicotine, morphine etc) has also been reported as one of the major causes for panic attacks by many medical associations across the globe. Hyperventilation syndrome is another major cause for anxiety attacks. In hyperventilation syndrome the individual breathes excessively leading to a series of events like rapid heartbeat, nausea, dizziness etc which could ultimately end in a panic attack.

The most interesting cause of them all is that panic attacks can happen for no-reason as well. An individual simply starts trembling and begins to feel intense fear leading to severe consequences.

This might sound weird to many readers, but let me tell you that this disorder is actually wreaking havoc in the lives of many hapless individuals across the globe. The problem is not the fear but the chain of events or the feelings that could arise/happen in the event of a panic attack. The individual might feel like he/she is having a heart attack or flashing vision or even a nervous breakdown.

Now, this is the most severe case of them all. The experience of a panic attack can be brutal as it can lead to real heart attacks (In the event of a panic attack, the individual feels that he/she has a heart arrest but in reality he/she doesn’t have a myocardial infarction). This is a very serious condition and the affected individual must undergo treatment as early as possible. It is up to the individual to train his/her mind to cope with the onset of such extreme fear in addition to taking the prescribed medications to obtain full relief from panic attacks.
