Incontinence Products – What Are Your Options?
Whether you have incontinence or someone you know has, there are several incontinence products that are available for you to choose from.
Adult diapers. Diapers are very accessible as you don\’t need to specifically order them from stores that sell incontinence products. Also, they are considerably cheap compared to all other products.
Diapers can be used by those who suffer from both urinary and bowel incontinence. Since these are disposable, no matter how soiled it is, it can just go straight to the garbage bin.
Absorbent underwear. These products are usually categorized as for men or for women. There are underwear that have been made while taking into consideration the differences in the sizes and shapes of legs of males or females. Also, there is also that consideration for providing the area that is the most absorbent on parts that are according to the bodies of the two sexes.
With this consideration for the different sexes, the underwear will fit better and thus, leaks are avoided and absorption is optimized. These underwear are unlike disposable diapers as they are thinner and that their absorbent parts are focused only to the area that gets wet the most.
Incontinence pants. Similar to absorbent underwear, incontinence pants have focused absorbent areas. But, they provide more protection by making sure that the product fits well with the legs of the one who will use it. Stretchable materials are most commonly used to attain this perfect fit.
Bed pads. As additional protection, some use pads that are lined in their buttocks area while they sleep. These pads prevent urine that has leaked from their diapers or underwear to get into the bed. These are used for hygienic purposes. Also, they save you the trouble of having to change the bed linens and clean bed whenever it is soiled by urine.
These are pads that are absorbent on one side and are water-resistant on the other.
Collection Systems. For male individuals, there are collection systems available. These products are characterized by tubes that connect to urine bags. Usually, catheters or condom catheters are attached to the penis. From the catheter, the urine goes through the tubes and is collected in the urine bag. The bags are attached to your thigh or at the lower leg.
There are several different designs of collection systems. There are those that are comfortable to carry around. These products usually cost more than the others mentioned above but they can be used multiple times and still provide good results.
Urinary clamps. Still for males, there are urinary clamps. The urethra is clamped to avoid involuntary passing of urine. The person will release the clamp if he feels the sensation to void. For those who are no longer able to feel that their bladders are distended, they can release the clamps at regular intervals.
Vaginal pessaries. For women, there are vaginal pessaries. These products work by providing support to the urinary bladder after being inserted through the vagina. When using these, special care should be given to the product and to the female genitals as infection is a common complication.
