Crazy For Cookies – How I Overcome Boredom and Lonely Moments?

There are days that I just can’t stop thinking of the cookies and muffins that mom used to bake for us when we were kids. I could almost taste and smell the chocolate chip cookies and apple filled muffins that she made with my help. This really drives me mad and I just have to get my fix of those freshly baked goodies. You know what I do to stop myself from craving those sweet delights? I give in of course and go to my favorite bakery in town and indulge in the delicious cookies, brownies and whatever baked goodies that I can smell a mile away. I love peanut butter so I would definitely try to get a basketful of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies if I see them. I would also grab a tray of chocolate chip brownies, biscotti or scones if I see them. I have this image in my mind that they are all alive, taunting me from the shelves to take and eat them right then and there. I am really crazy for these freshly baked goodies.

I may be your dreaded Cookie Monster but I can also be like The Count, counting and sharing cookies with my family and friends. They know that instead of cards or a gadget, they would get trays of cookies or muffins from me on their birthdays, anniversaries or any happy occasion that we always celebrate together. From my grandmother who always look forward to a basket of mini banana nut muffins or lemon cranberry muffins on grandparents day, to my childhood best friend who wouldn’t miss the oatmeal raisin cookies we shared on both our birthdays, I always make sure that I order in advance from my favorite bakery so their freshly baked goodies will surely arrive on time. There were times in the past that I was away on business and all I had to do was access their website and order online. What a convenient way this is to remember sending gifts to my family and friends. They even have coupons and discounts I can avail of and have a reminder system for special occasions so I won’t forget to send a tray of playdough cookies to my niece on her birthday.

My line of work takes me to different parts of the country and almost always, I have to meet new people whom I will have to work with for sometime. Do you know how I win their friendships? You guessed it right – with cookies, muffins and brownies of all kinds that I buy from the most popular bakeshop in town. I would make sure that I have at least a tray of chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies and share them with my work group. They would invariably warm to me once I show them what I got. I have yet to fail in this technique so I urge you to try the same next time you have to meet with new people on your work. I gave this tip to my niece who started high school in another part of the state. She brought a basket of brownie filled cookies and raspberry filled cookies at a school meeting and she told me that every body like the fresh baked goodies she brought and they all welcomed and appreciated her presence there. She certainly gained several friends at that time.
