Common Causes of Anxiety Attacks
If the causes of anxiety attacks are known to you, then you might be able to help someone you know, or better yet help yourself, avoid situation that will induce anxiety attacks. There is an old saying that states that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”, if you can avoid the causes, then you can save others or yourself from the discomfort of having a panic attack.
Below are the most common causes of anxiety attacks:
* Phobias. When a person is exposed to an object or event that he fears the most, he will naturally have an anxiety attack. Fear is what triggers the attack. An example would be if a person who has in inherent fear of speaking in public is forced to do a speech, he will then start to freeze up and would not be able to get the words out, and there’s a high possibility that he will also faint.
* Hyperventilation. Constant heavy breathing through the mouth will cause the person to feel a bit of lightheadedness, this initial feeling will make the person breathe even more heavily as he tries to catch his breath. This constant cycle will eventually trigger an anxiety attack in the person.
* Heredity. Numerous studies have found out that anxiety disorders can be inherited from parent to offspring. This underpins the long belief that mental illnesses aren’t genetic in nature.
* Emotional instability. When a person is in an unbalanced emotional state, the brain goes on overdrive in producing chemicals to try and stabilize its condition; these chemicals will cause an imbalance in the chemistry of the body which will result in anxiety attacks. This is often caused by the passing of someone close, or the dissolution of a long-standing relationship.
* Environment. The surroundings also play a huge role in triggering anxiety attacks. Stresses that come from the environment often trigger a person’s anxiety attack. One of the most common causes of anxiety attacks is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. When a person is subjected to a potentially traumatic event like war, natural disasters, kidnappings or other forms of crime, that person is most likely to get PTSD.
* Stress. When a person is faced with a dilemma and it seems like there is no way out, the stress he feels is an effective way to start having an anxiety episode. People that have troubles financially or in the home are the most likely candidates to have a panic attack.
* Withdrawal syndrome. Sudden deprivation of a substance a person is dependent on can also trigger panic attacks. Withdrawal symptoms will start to manifest themselves if the body senses that there is something lacking from what the person is ingesting. It may be alcohol, cigarettes, or any other substance that the body has the tendency to be dependent on.
These are a just a few of the numerous causes of anxiety attacks. If you know which of these causes you to have panic attacks, then you can at least try to avoid them.
