Filling-out a Job Application Form
In this day and age of recession, crisis, and poverty, job opportunities are hard to find, and people do not have the luxury to choose a career for themselves. The primary goal at this point is to have work that pays the bills.
With all the people losing or leaving the companies that they work for, job fairs, despite the limited slots, never fail to get loads and loads of attendees. Supply of workers is way more than the demand of the industry.
So, after waiting in line by the registration booth, I finally entered the huge tent where the bi-annual job fair is held. There were around 30,000 people present there, and only 1,000 positions available for hire. I wasn’t feeling hopeful, but I decided to give it my best shot since my preparation started a few weeks ago.
When I first found out about the job fair, I went online and researched on the list of companies that are participating. After some thought, I picked on my top 50 companies that I decided to apply to. In the span of two weeks before the fair, I read about the companies, mainly to find out what kind of industry they are in, and what possible job openings that they might offer. I ended up with a final list consisting of 28 companies from different industries such as information technology, travel and tourism, communication, entertainment and media, and even food and beverage. I then ranked them according to my preferences.
I went to the booth of the company at the top of my list in high spirits only to feel a bit downhearted afterwards. A very long queue of people formed in front of their table.
Not wanting to spend more time in line, I decided to have a quicker approach: fill-out a job application form and leave it to the box by the recruitment specialist’s table then let fate decide whether or not I deserve the job.
In filling out an application form, the first thing that you should keep in mind is that your handwriting should be clear and readable. Hurrying up is a big no-no because there is a big chance that the people who will read what you put in the application would not understand what you wrote.
Then, of course, one should be honest. Researchers claim that recruitment specialists tend to hire or recommend people who they feel are honest than those that they feel are more qualified because of background and experience. Transparency is one key to a good job, whether you’re a subordinate or a boss.
A few days after, I got “the” call. I was hired. Now you know the secret. While you’re going to find that other people are going to have different experiences, you’re going to want to make sure that you just try hard, and never give up! Those that don’t give up, are the ones that are going to greatly succeed in the long haul.
