If you’ve ever thought of starting a home-based business, several thoughts might have crossed your mind. First, you might have thought that that type of business would be beneficial for you and your family, because you could be your own boss and have a flexible schedule.

Dell: You know this as one of the largest computer and server distributors in the whole entire world. They are among the top 50 of the Fortune 500 and have billions of dollars in revenue.

So where did this big operation start? In a dorm room. It was started by a University of Texas student who decided to found a business while going to college.

Michael Dell started out his operation in 1984, which at that time was called PCs Limited. He decided to drop out of college to run it full time, and only 4 years later Dell was valued at more than $80 million.

Apple: They may supply you and your family with IPods and Macs, but this powerhouse operation was started in a garage. It was started by two long-time friends, Steve Wozniack and Steve Jobs (who is now a big name in Apple).

Steve was a computer hacker that united with Steve Jobs when they had the idea to build a personal computer. In 1976, Wozniack built the computer and they went to an electronics store to see if it could be sold in the store.

The owner of the store was interested and wanted 50 units. From there, Apple got its start and is now one of the premier electronics companies in all the world.

Mattel: You know them as the company that made the Barbie world famous, but this operation was started in a garage, just like Apple was. It was started by two newlyweds.

Ruth and Elliot Handler started a picture frame business out of the garage of their California home. As a side project, one of them would make dollhouse furniture with excess material, and they found that making toys had much more promise than picture frames.

After 1955, they released their most famous toy “Barbie”. After that, things have never been the same for this couple. They are on the list of Fortune 500s, and their toys are cherished by children all around the Levitra world.
