the Horizon had its way, we may see yet another British invasion of the music scene. The band, which hails from Sheffield, Yorkshire, is making waves in the international circuit, as young as it may be in the music industry’s estimation.

And speaking of waves, the band’s name came from a line by Captain Jack Sparrow, “Now, bring me that horizon,” in the hit movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. No matter the whimsy behind the name, fans and critics alike expect metal core at its budding best from the members of the band.

Band History and Studio Albums Released

The history of Bring Me the Horizon spans three periods at present. First, the early years from 2004 to 2007 starting with the formation of the band. The members came from the defunct bands in the local area with Oliver Sykes on lead vocals, Lee Malia on lead guitar, Matt Kean on bass guitar, Matt Nicholls on drums and percussion, and Curtis Ward on rhythm guitar. Jona Weinhofen later replaced Ward and then taking on the roles of keyboardist, programmer and vocalist.

During this period, their debut album Count Your Blessings was released in October 2006 and August 2007 in the United Kingdom and United States, respectively. Bring Me the Horizon also toured with I Killed the Prom Queen, Lostprophets, The Haunted, The Blackout, and Killswitch Engage Kamagra in addition to playing at the 2007 Download Festival.

The second period consisted of line-up changes which happened from 2008 to 2009. Said change happened in March 2009 when Curtis Ward left the band and was then replaced by Jona Weinhofen in May 2009, albeit only on a temporary basis during the first two months. In July 2009, Weinhofen was officially declared as the newest member of the band.

It was also during this time that the group released their second studio Bring Me the Horizon album titled Suicide Season. Unlike the first album, this one definitely had the metal core sound to it, which the fans loved and which attained its peak at number 28 of the Australian ARIA Albums Chart.

In November 2009, the remixed version of the album, Suicide Season: Cut Up!, was released. It featured many musicians and producers like Ben Weinman, Sonny Moore and Shawn Crahan, thus, giving the remix version diverse sounds from hip hop to electro.

The group’s third period spans 2009 to the present and, hopefully, the release of the propecia allergy third Being Me the Horizon album. It is slated for release in the summer of 2010, an event that many fans are eagerly awaiting for.

This British metal core band has reaped accolades and criticisms too in their native land. Among the accolades heaped on Bring Me the Horizon are the 2006 Kerrang!
