Learning From Aristotle’s Supreme Scientific Example

If you are thinking about going into studying any type of science to eventually become a scientist you may be feeling overwhelmed with exactly how much you have to sift through. There are a lot of people that do not understand just how many different sciences there are.

Aristotle is a great example of a classic scientist. Although he did not have the advantage of modern day lab, he was able to make do with what he had and make himself a great scientist.

This man was born in 384 BC. Not only was he a scientist but he was also a philosopher.

He was the student of Plato, who is another very prominent figure in academia. Socrates, Aristotle and Plato are considered the three most influential men in the ancient Greek society.

Aristotle is someone that people still reference and his work is continually being used in the scientific world. His legacy has out lived him by many years and that just goes to show how important his work has been.

This scientist was born in Stageira. Stageira was a colony that was located outside of Andros which was on the Macedonian peninsula of Chaldcidice in 385 BC. He was lucky to be born into a position in society in which he was educated.

His father was Nicomachus and he served as a court physician to King Amyntas the third of Macedon. This role as an educated person was something that his family took seriously and this enabled him to become educated.

Because of the way society was set up back in these days Aristotle would have been educated by his father. When he was a young student his mother and his father passed away.

By the time he was ten years old he was an orphan and he was sent to live with his uncle Proxenus. It was while he was living with his uncle that he began to be taught in the arts of the written Greek language.

He was exposed to poetry, rhetoric and philosophy. At a young age he was taught to be a well balanced student and to learn all that he possibly could.

For eleven years after turning eighteen Aristotle stayed in Athens and studied under Plato. Whiel he was in the school he disagreed with some of the teachings of Plato.

He distinguished himself as an excellent student and eventually he had a falling out with Plato. The two scientists parted ways and the theories that they taught and presented were very different from one another.

At this point, Aristotle decided to leave the Academy and he went to another city where he married the daughter of a ruler in Asia Minor. The niece had become more of an adopted daughter for this ruler.

Another ruler called Aristotle to become a tutor for Alexander the Great who was only 13 at the time. While he was tutoring the young boy there was a lot of resources that he was able to take control of.

The young ruler was able to allow his tutor access to many of the most prominent books and resources of the time. The educator also felt it was a great privilege to be able to educate the young ruler.

While he was tutoring he was once again considered as an option to be the leader of the Academy, but once again he was not chosen. Instead he opened his own school of Philosophy in Athens.

When he was teaching at and running his own school he was able to compile all of his writings into many books. Most of these books survived and we are able to learn about him and his scientific dealings today.

With all of the fancy lab equipment that is available for you today, there is no reason why you cannot be a great scientist.
