Virginia Beach Will Agree with You

In the metropolitan area of Virginia, on the Atlantic Ocean, lies Virginia Beach, an independent city located in the Hampton Roads. It is the most populous city in Virginia and the 42nd largest city in the United States with a population of about 440,415 in 2008.

This area is known as “America’s First Region” and includes independent cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Suffolk in addition to many other smaller cities, counties and towns in Hampton Roads. It is a resort city with miles of beaches and several hundred hotels, motels and restaurants along its popular oceanfront.

Each year the city is host to the East Coast Surfing Championships and the North American Sand Soccer Championship. It also houses several state parks, long-protected beaches, three military bases, large corporations, two universities and many historic sites.

The famous Cape Henry lies where Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet. It was the site of the first landing English colonists which eventually settled down in Jamestown on April 26, 1607.

Listed as having the longest pleasure beach in the world, by Guinness Book of Records, Virginia shore is located by the south end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the longest bridge-tunnel structure in the world. There is much history and brilliance surrounding this city.

The Chesepians were the first to inhabit the area surrounding Virginia Beach. In 1607, three ships carrying Brand Levitra 105 men and boys made their first landing there as well.

Then, it was named Cape Henry after Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of King James I of England. However, the English left the area as a result of orders to seek a further inland foundation for their European settlers, who created the first permanent settlement at Jamestown.

The average elevation is 12 feet above sea level while a major portion of the area drains to the Chesapeake Bay by the Lynnhaven River and its tributaries. It is the 34th largest shoreline area in the United States with a total population of 1,576,370.

The city of Norfolk is recognized as the central business district, while the Oceanside resort district and Williamsburg are primarily centers of tourism. Though Virginia Beach is the most populated city in the MSA, it currently functions more similarly to a suburb.

The modern city was created in 1963 and was divided into seven neighborhoods: Bayside, Blackwater, Kempsville, Lynnhaven, Princess Anne, Pungo and Virginia Beach. There are many distinctive communities and burroughs within its boundaries.

The climate in that region is humid subtropical, because of the moderating effect of the ocean. Its winters are mild and snowfall is very rare. Summers are hot and humid during the day with warm evenings.

The mean temperature for the year is 73 degrees Fahrenheit with an average annual snowfall of 2.5 inches and rainfall of 45 inches. The seasons with the most precipitation are spring and summer with rainfall existing most of the year still.

The highest recorded temperature is 103 degrees Fahrenheit and it was in August of 1957. The lowest recorded temperature was 4 degrees Fahrenheit and occurred in January 1985.

Thus, the climate of the region is nice and moderate without jumping back and forth between extremes. This makes for a comfortable stay and agreeable place to live.

Also, the geographic location of this region is especially favorable as it does not receive many storm tracks. It is just south of the average path of storms that originate in higher latitudes and north of the typical tracks for hurricanes and tropical storms that hit down south.

The exception is Hurricans Isabel which hit in 2003. But relatively Cialis speaking, this is a safe area that avoids much damage caused by natural disasters.

The city was named the safest United States city in 2004 and was ranked number 55 on The Daily Caller’s list of America’s 100 most conservative-friendly counties in 2010. Being in the south, it is also a very religious place. 34.43% of the population is affiliated with religious congregations compared to the nation’s figure at 50.2%. There are 146,402 adherents and 184 different religious sects to date.
