Best Things to Do In DC

Washington DC, our nation’s capital, has so many great things to do. If you are only going to be there for a short time, what are the things not to miss?

Well here you go; here is a list of the best places to go, the best places to eat and the best places to stay. All of these places are sure to not disappoint.

Of course while in DC you are going to visit some historical sites. The Smithsonian is definitely one spot not to be missed.

The Smithsonian is huge and you could literally spend a whole day there, possibly even more. With a variety of exhibits, many are worth mentioning including the National Air & Space Museum, the National Postal Museum, the Natural History Museum, the American History Museum, the National Zoo (which is one of the few zoos in the U.S. featuring Giant Pandas), the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Discovery Theater and many others.

You are sure to find something of interest at the Smithsonian. A major plus of visiting here is most exhibits are free as well.

So save a couple bucks and enjoy touring this amazing complex. A few other great museums in the area are Newseum and the International Spy Museum.

If you want to see how money is made, check out the Bureau of Engraving & Printing. Tours are given every 15 minutes Monday through Friday.

In DC you will also find many important memorials and monuments. A few you should most definitely stop by are the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the National World War II Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, the Pentagon Memorial, and the Washington Monument.

After all of the memorials, you may want to pay a visit to the three houses of the government. Which are the U.S. Capitol Building, the White House and the U.S. Supreme Court.

They all offer tours, but some need to be made ahead of time, so make sure you check into that before you go. Another cool building to check out while in the area is the Library of Congress, the world’s largest library.

Also in the area is the United States Botanic Garden, if you love outdoors, you will love strolling through this huge garden. If you are looking for a place to relax, check out Rock Creek Park.

This park is spread out over 3,000 acres and is a great place to hike, jog, or even kayak. As far as shopping goes an interesting spot is the Eastern Market.

Here you can find fresh fruit and vegetables and on the weekends local Cialis artists sell their work. Another fun place to shop is in Georgetown.

This town has upscale chains Tadalis SX and historic buildings. Even if you don’t buy anything, it is still a great place to take a stroll.

You could also check out Chinatown, which has plenty of Asian inspired shops and restaurants. If you are into sporting events, Washington DC is home to a variety of national leagues in baseball, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, tennis and football.

One last thing, if you are looking for a thrill, check out Six Flags Theme Park, located 30 minutes from DC. The park is open April through October and features more than 100 rides, shows and attractions.

After all of your sightseeing you will most definitely be hungry. If you are looking for something cheap, try Ben’s Chili Bowl, the Italian Store, The Diner, Good Stuff Eatery, and Giuseppi’s Pizza.

A few other great restaurants worth mentioning are Palena, Citronelle, Mitsitam Cafe at the National Museum of the American Indians, 1789 Restaurant, J & G Steakhouse, Komi, City Zen, Raku, Lost Dog Cafe and Tabard Inn.

If you are looking for some family-friendly restaurants check out ESPN Zone, The Food Court at Union Station, Old Glory BBQ, Johnny Rockets, Cheeburger Cheeburger, and Bugaboo Creek Steak House.

As far as hotels go, a few you may want to look into are: The Fairmont, Four Seasons, The Hay-Adams, Mandarin Oriental, the Morrison House and the St. Regis. If you have kids you are probably looking for a hotel that is family-friendly.

A few you may want to consider are the Embassy Suites, the Omni Shoreham Hotel, and the Holiday Inn. Good luck and have a great time in this exciting, influential part of America!
