Free Things to Do in Hawaii

Everyone loves things that are free. If you are taking a trip to Hawaii, you would probably love to find some free things to do.

Just getting to Hawaii is probably already costing you quite a bit, so why not save some money while on the island? If you already live in Hawaii, you probably enjoy free attractions as well.

So here is some advice on things to do in this tropical paradise that won’t cost you a thing. First and foremost, go to the beach!

With the white sand and crystal clear water, you are sure to have an amazing time. A few beaches worth mentioning are Hapuna Beach on the Big Island is great for swimming, Kaanapali Beach in West Maui is great for water sports, Lanikai Beach in Oahu has sugar-soft sand, and last but not least, the famous Waikiki Beach in Oahu.

Of course you are guaranteed to run into many beaches, so take your pick and have a fabulous time! Aside from water sports, shell collecting and sand castle building, each Saturday and Sunday free movies are shown on Kapahulu Pier at Waikiki Beach.

This could be another fun activity to try out without having to spend a dime. Don’t forget to also view the sunsets in Hawaii, they are amazing and won’t cost you a dime.

Once you are done at the beach, there are many free tours in Hawaii. First is the Dole Pineapple Plantation.

This is one of the most visited attractions in Hawaii. There you will learn about the history and farming of pineapples, you will be able to view a pineapple cutting demonstration and maybe even get to eat some.

They also have a fish pond where visitors can feed the giant koi. Another tour found here is at Pearl Harbor.

You could take another adventurous hike to the Seven Sacred Pools. This area has numerous pools and waterfalls where visitors enjoy swimming and cliff jumping.

The Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens is another fun spot to visit. This 400 acre botanic garden has many beautiful plants as well as hikes, crafts and cloud watching.

Learn more about the culture of Hawaii by taking a free hula lesson. The Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center offers them as well as lei-making lessons and ukulele lessons.

The Ala Moana Center has many live performances each year including a hula show. Enjoy one of these great performances without having to pay a thing.

Another exciting thing to do is go whale watching. During the right time of the year you can see many whales.

One great place to view them is on the cliffs overlooking Honolua Bay in Maui. A few other free activities in Maui include the Shapers Surf Museum, and Aunti Aloha’s Hawaiian Hut, which features artist actually working while you watch them.

If you like to shop then check out the Aloha Flea Market located at the Aloha Stadium. It is open every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you are looking for some affordable souvenirs then this is the spot for you! Another good place to shop is at the International Marketplace in Waikiki.

For those who love music, check out the Royal Hawaiian Band at Iolani Palace every Friday. There are also many entertainers who perform at the hotels and on the streets of Waikiki.

Just take a walk and you will find some free entertainment. If you are lucky, you will be on the island during one of their festivals.

A few include the Aloha Festivals, the King Kamehameha Celebration and the Honolulu Festival. One last fun thing for the kids to do would be to visit the Wildest Show summer concert series at the Honolulu Zoo held weekly from June through August.
