Roger Waters Tickets – Don’t Miss a Live Show

At 66 years old, Roger Waters has hardly hit a wall. In 2011 the former Pink Floyd bassist and songwriter will hit the road again in support of something he hasn’t played in over three decades – the Pink Floyd album The Wall. With the exception of the commencement at the fall of the Berlin wall in 1990, Waters and his former bandmates haven’t touched The Wall.

That is all going to change, although Waters will be doing it alone after keyboardist’s Richard Wright’s death halted any rumors regarding a Pink Floyd reunion. Nonetheless, the North American arena dates running from September to December 2010 sold out within hours, revealing The Wall is just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. “Fundamentally the music and lyrics are the same, it’s how the album’s interpreted that’s different,” Waters said during a press conference in London in late May. “I think when we finished it all those years ago I remember sitting and listening to the final thing and thinking, ‘this is a really good piece of work, very coherent, it has a really good shape, it’s very dramatic.'” The dramatic sound of The Wall will be performed live with Waters on bass and vocals, Snowy White and Dave Kilminster on guitars and Venice as the backing band.

Waters has spent time perfecting The Wall’s 26 tracks in preparation for the kickoff reunion tour in September. In celebration of the album’s 30th anniversary Waters will perform The Wall in its entirety featuring a modern stage production.
“30 years ago when I wrote The Wall I was a frightened young man,” Waters told Spinner Magazine in April. “It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable reside of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.”

Waters formed Pink Floyd in 1965 along with lead singer Syd Barrett, drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright. Barrett lasted only through the first album, before David Gilmour came on board for the sophomore A Saucerful of Secrets. Just three albums into their career and Waters was already working on solo stuff while contributing to the majority of the album’s song lyrics. It was 1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon that was a breakthrough for both Waters, who wrote all the lyrics and some of the music, and the group. As the album made rock history, so did Waters.

As The Wall’s principal songwriter, Waters first performed the disk during Pink Floyd’s 1980-1981 tour. A decade later after the release of the album and seven years after Pink Floyd had split, the group reunited for a star studded event in Berlin where they played The Wall again. Don’t miss the show this time around.
