Short HDMI Leads – Why Are They Better Than Longer HDMI Cable?

As more and more are converting to high definition televisions these days, there are probably lots of people out there that are confused about all of the various video connection cables they could buy. You can use a DVI connection, but this type of cable only provides video, so you have to find something else to deliver the audio to your television. You can use a DVI/HDMI hybrid connection, which delivers both audio and video in a single cable, but these suffer from problems that are usually caused by the manufacturing process, as it is hard to make one cable that is following two different tech specifications. What most people have found to be the best type of cable to use are short HDMI leads.

An HDMI cable is a video connection wire that delivers both high quality audio and video over a single digital line. In the past, you had to use composite Brand Viagra cables, those red, yellow and white cables you plug into your TV, where one cable was for the video, and the other two were for the audio. These types of cables were analogue cables, which was fine back in a time when we had analogue TV’s and analogue video sources, like VHS tapes. Now we have digital video sources, like DVDs and Blu-rays, and digital TVs as well, which make HDMI the ideal choice. So you know which kind of cable to buy, which most people prefer, but do you go for a longer HDMI lead or short HDMI leads?

With older analogue video cables, the length of the cable did not matter. The picture quality would remain the same no matter how long the cable was, unless of course, it was just poorly manufactured cable. This is one of the very few limitations of the HDMI specs, as using a longer can be detrimental to the audio and video quality, which is the whole point of using an HDMI cable in the first place. These types of cables can be found anywhere from a couple feet long to 50 feet or longer. As long as you use short HDMI leads that are about 10 feet or shorter, you should never have any issues with the picture or sound quality.

Short HDMI leads also are much easier to deal with in your entertainment centre at home. You probably already have all kinds of wires and cords running everywhere behind your TV, so having a shorter cable will only create less of a mess for you to have to deal with.
