Wicked Tickets – Named ‘Best Stage Musical’ of Decade by EW

It has been defined as the “Best Stage Musical” of the decade by Entertainment Weekly, as Wicked continues to tour the nation with support from millions of fans that confirm the pick. Narrowing in on nearly a decade on Broadway (though the show is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire from 2000 it officially appeared at the Gershwin Theater in 2003), Wicked’s unique approach to a standard musical format has earned it praise all over the world.

With its record-breaking San Francisco engagement coming to a close this September, the one million fans that have been entertained at its original home, the Orpheum Theatre, will quickly define this musical as one of the best. Make your own judgment this year as Wicked on tour continues to impress audiences all over North America, with Wicked tickets online.

As the only musical defined on Entertainment Weekly’s “The 100 Greatest Movies, TV Shows, Songs, Moments & More – Best of the Decade 2000 – 2009,” Wicked’s success goes far beyond Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre. Its original stars – Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth – have done a sensational job of keeping “their” musical mainstream even while they have their hands on other projects. Both Menzel and Chenoweth left their roles on Wicked just a few years into the Broadway season but have continued to keep commercial audiences entertained with appearances in small screen roles like Glee, Pushing Daises, Private Practice and more.

“With Kirstin Chenoweth’s soaring vocals, Idina Menzel’s show-stopping ‘Defying Gravity’ and an army of winged monkeys, is it any wonder 2003’s Oz-themed musical left audiences carried away?” wrote Entertainment Weekly.

The Broadway hit recently welcomed a new force in the role of Madame Morrible: Broadway veteran Kathy Fitzgerald, who has spent time on Broadway stages with The Producers, Swinging on a Star and 9 to 5. Fitzgerald joined the cast of Wicked June 29. Replacing Rondi Reed; she will join Mandy Gonzalez (Elphaba), Katie Rose Clarke (Glinda), P.J. Bejamin (The Wizard), Andy Karl (Fiyero), Alex Brigtman (Boq), Jenny Fellner (Nessarose) and Timothy Britten Parker (Dr. Dillamond) for the Gershwin Theater production.

Fitzgerald comes to the Broadway staple just in time for a celebration, as it recently celebrate $2 million in gross sales for a single week of performances. Set during the week ending in Nov. 29, 2009 the box office hit couldn’t be more impressed with the numbers, shattering Wicked’s previous top record of $1.8 million.

Opening on Broadway in October 2003, Wicked is based on the Gregory Maguire novel “Wicked: Levitra Professional The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” The story follows Elphaba and Glinda, two young girls who end up having to room together at boarding school in the Land of Oz and whom eventually become the Witched Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. While the very popular Glinda doesn’t take to the green-skinned loner Elphaba at first, the two make an inseparable bond that finds them at the throes of their fellow classmates. The show has picked up 26 major awards since premiering in 2003, including three Tony Awards and a Grammy.
