Big Dreams of Holidays in the Big Apple

Dreaming of a tropical getaway? Go to a tropical-themed spa. Wishing for a musical vacation? Hankering for green space in the maddening city? Bask in the sun at Central Park and Prospect Park. Wanting attention as a star? Audition in any of the talents agencies and start on your dreams of superstardom. Anything your heart desires, the big apple has it and has it beyond your wildest imaginings.

As one might expect, the holidays, festivals and fests in New York are almost always over the top in keeping with its reputation. Where other cities can boast of ancient traditions reformatted to suit modern times, this city has thoroughly modern holidays to reflect its modern sensibilities. Visitors may be able to find ethnic festivities in New York but often in ethic communities like Chinatown although others are conducted on the streets. The Big Apple, after all, is a city fed by and, many say, feeding on immigrants then and now.

Now, if you intend to be an immigrant, in a manner of speaking, to the Big Apple on a couple of its public holidays, make the necessary reservations for a holiday apartment. New York being a big city to explore, you will want to rest your weary but happy self in comfortable accommodations after your citified adventures.

The best thing about New York holidays is that it spans the range from the gritty to the glamorous and every shade of social orientation in between. Indeed, this city may not be known for its tolerance as Berlin is in the international community but it is certainly a place to achieve the proverbial American Dream, if and when you have the right soul for it.

It would be unfair to cite one New York holiday over the others simply because each one is as important in its own right as the others. Thus, the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday observance and the National Black Fine Art Show are just as important as the Chinese New Year celebrations and the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. This is also true for the likes of the Belmont Stakes, the JVC Jazz Festival, the New York Lesbian & Gay Film Festival and the Great July Fourth Festival, to name a few more festivities.

Just remember than when caught in one of the New York holidays, you must act like a New Yorker. Appreciate but never gawk. Clap your hands but never be too enthusiastic as to fall off your seat. Love but try to be nonchalant about it. Dream and dream big.
